It's a common mistake that people who regularly attend church are safe from the devil. Those are the ones he wants the most! They are at the highest risk.
Anyone and everyone is tempted. Greed, gluttony, laziness, lust, anger (BOY do we have a lot of Christians here who have some issues controlling their anger.)
As the first responder mentions, drugs open one up to the demonic quite readily. So does abuse, mental or physical.
Toying with the occult also opens one up to the demonic.

There are many ways to invite demons into a person.
The most powerful way is to be involve into the ocult, ouji boards, asking evil spirts for advice etc.
This the most direct contact with demons.
How to avoid being possessed, read the bible everyday, pray to Jesus Christ have a relationship with Jesus Christ.
Then no demons will ever touh you.

Because they are open. If a person does not want demons ruling their life, then they must personally refuse to let it happen! they have to be conscious regarding what is happening.
