Yes, it WOULD be unconstitutional to make SPEAKING ANY another language illegal... HOWEVER, to make English the OFFICIAL language of a City, State, or NATION would not be unconstitutional (just difficult).
That merely means that the government in question will conduct it's BUSINESS in English... no forms in a dozen different languages, no more press 2 for English on their voice mail systems... no printing voting materials in a dozen languages.

I'm against a foreign language being used in the course of any city or state business. I think the web offers enough resources to help people, and if you're serious about being an american citizen, a great way to show that would be to start with learning our language. People that don't want to learn english, and want to instead substitute their own language, want to reform america to meet their needs. I just don't believe that should be encouraged...

Learn how to read then come back and post, they want to make English the official language, that means all official business will be conducted in English, not it's illegal to speak Spanish.

Yes it is. BUT official English doesn't mean "English only." Having English as our official language simply means that for the government to act officially, it must communicate in English. It means the language of record is the English language, and that no one has a right to demand government services in any other language
President Theodore Roosevelt once said, "We have one language here, and that is the English language, and we intend to see that the [assimilation] crucible turns our people out as Americans."

In my personal opinion I believe that it is okay to speak your own language but not to have us accomidate any foreign speaking people. It is your responsibility in moving here to learn our language. And about free speech. You have the freedom to speak our language. You wouldnt want us to come to Mexico and Spain and make you speak english.
