I was on celexa for a year...
Around the 6 month mark I really really really wanted a drink and caved. NOT GOOD.
It screws around with emotions something fierce, and puts you almost at square one for the med.
Your doctor probably told you that it takes about 2-4 weeks to get into your system and start working. By back at square one, all the effects are gone and you are waiting again.
Plus you may black out, faint, or have other adverse reactions.
Please do not risk this- your mental health is more important! If you crave a drink, I suggest getting yourself hooked on booster juice or starbucks or something... with no alcohol.
I had a network of friends that kept me distracted when everyone was going to the bar.
Good luck- I know what you are going through and I hope it's easier for you than it was for me...

firstly you have not been on the drug for long and the best affects can take time to work. Secondly, alcohol is a depressant and any amount will have some effect, even if it only reduces the effectiveness of the drug and does not have any side effects. I know it can be really tough but you must have wanted to feel better pretty badly to be on drugs in the first place so it would be a shame to waste all that honest effort. Try this, when you want a drink its probably a blip in your mood. Do something; walk somewhere even if its only 100 yards, activity will dispel some of the endomorphins that are making you feel low. Good Luck!

Yes, simply put you are taking an anti-depressant, and alcohol is a depressant. When you have a drink you are counter acting the anti-depressant you are taking. My advice to you would be not to drink at all or if you must then very little. This will give your medicine the best chance of working properly.

Celexa does not increase the effects of alcohol. Nevertheless, it's considered unwise to combine Celexa with alcohol or any other drug that affects the brain

Drinking while on antidepressants will make you feel good while you are drinking and several hours later, more depressed. It will also interfere with the course of the medication so you will be getting worse, if you drink regularly. Now, one drink per week should not be so bad. But when you are depressed its not easy to stop at one.

Having an occasional glass of wine, or one mixed drink isn't going to greatly impact you while taking an antidepressant. Getting drunk on the other hand, could kill you. So, obviously, if you can do without getting drunk, have your cocktail. If you can't avoid getting drunk when you drink, then it's time to stay dry.

Don't risk it. Some drugs when mixed with alcohol are lethal.
