Every single day when I am in traffic these motorcycles fly by in between two lanes and through the traffic. The fact that they get to by pass doesn’t piss me off as much as the fact that I am worried that one day I will be merging to the next lane and will hit one of these bikers (accidental of course) If that were to happen would it b my fault or there’s? Is this even legal!?

IT IS legal in CA. Not sure why , but it is. Check with the state if you don't believe it. It's called lane-share. There is no statute saying it is ok, but there is no law against it. I guess you'd be at fault if they're moving at a legal limit above traffic and not going crazy.
What a weird law.

The term is called 'lane splitting' and it is perfectly legal in California.

It helps keep traffic moving because the motorcycles won't take up space in between 2 cars when the average speed of traffic in a lane is well below the posted freeway maximum.

If a car driver is merging or changing lanes and doesn't check his or her mirrors and signal, he or she could be partially at fault in such a collision. It is a good habit to check all 3 mirrors frequently, and look over your shoulder and use your turn signal when changing lanes. Too many people are lazy and they don't.

*That* pisses me off much more than lane splitting. I just accept lane splitting and drive on.

I stay in California and that i do no longer lane chop up. For one, i individually do no longer think of it is secure, plus my cruiser is merely too extensive - i might probable clip my mirrors or cope with bars on motor vehicle replicate. No helmet? loopy, yet each and each his very own. i might positioned on one even I wasn't required to. i've got no longer dumped (yet) on a cycle, yet I have been given hit whilst driving a ten velocity sans helmet. i grew to become into knocked chilly and extremely fortunate to easily destroy my glasses, get a huge "bump" on my brow (which i think of continues to be there),some abrasions on my cheeks and palms, bloody nostril (found out two decades later i ought to have broken it at that ingredient), a decrease on my brow (mandatory stitches), a deep abrasion on my shoulder that mandatory scubbing (ouch - some airborne dirt and airborne dirt and dust nonetheless seen). Granted a bicycle helmet probable would not have stored my face, regardless of the shown fact that it would have stored the bump on the top and getting knocked out. So I journey with helmet on a the two a bicycle and a bike. the different question I somewhat have, did the Harley rider and his GF have any leathers or stuff? My under 10 mph bicycle crash tore up my shirt and denims quite good... street velocity sell off with wearing clothing proper for attending a marriage? Ouch.

no it isn't legal. i saw on the news once a rider doing that very thing during a traffic jam. a driver opened his door...well, i don't have to tell you the results. but all in all, riders are just like drivers...
some are good, some are bad.

oh, and if you are changing lanes and the rider is straddling 2 lanes...he is in the wrong.

The same reason they do it in all the other states - because they think they're clever little bungholes. I've always entertained the thought of 'accidently' opening my door when one of them came by my car - so what? I'm fully insured, and it'll teach them a lesson! I've also trained myself to 'lean' into the lane, close to the line to discourage a motorcyclist from doing that. As much as I fantasize about the door opening thing, I really don't want to be hurt, or hurt another person at speeds in excess of 55 mph!

hay , reason is because in ca. that is the law. also it helps the rider have more control over the flow of traffic:) ps the law has a maxium speed of 15 mph over flow of traffic and only in traffic under the speed of if i remember 30mph :):)

I have a motorcycle and that is the best thing to do, we do it because we don't want to wait in a line, and we show of (mostly boys do it).

sounds to me like it pisses more of you off than most other things, i do it, cos i can and will carry on doing it but i am very wary of car drivers incompetence to look where they are going and their total disregard for other road users..........numpty's is the phrase that comes to mind .................its also probably why truckers brains are inversely proportional to the size of their trucks

No it's not legal and they do it because they can and don't want to wait in traffic with the cars. If a cop sees this he's supposed to ticket them.

They are trying to compensate for their small packages & like to cut you off to feel like they have some power. Clearly, this is not the case and they (with their small packages) need to be hit.
