I'm 24, 5"5, a size 10, and i've been trying for the past two years for a flat stomach.I do have long slender legs, and do attract alot of attention from men. I eat healthly, jog three times a week, do sit ups etc.... I haven't got a fat belly, i just hate it when i sit down i see this spare tire. My boyfriend loves my body. Maybe i should just learn to love my body!

Almost everyone, even the very fit people, have their stomach stick out. It's not big deal, I'm fit, not muscular, and seem to have that too.

Not everybosy will have a flat abdomen unless they go down to insanely low fat levels. That is not healthy. So if your overall body fat % is in the healthy range (14-21%) it is perfectly fine.

That being said, excessive belly fat is a n indication of a higher risk of heart disease. That doesnot mean you'll have a heart attack , you might be pre-disposed than other people (with most fat on the hips ansd thighs) to have coronary problems. Keep eating healthy and exercising regularly - you'll be fine.

One thing to keep in mind: The "Ideal" body that you see in magazines is not necessarily ideal at all. Many models who have a flat stomach, which so many women seem to want these days, are underfed and unhealthy -- they are also airbrushed and computer enhanced to get that appearance!

As one commenter said before, women are supposed to have curves, it is a sign of femininity and health, and most men that I've talked to prefer a degree of softness to six pack abs. At a size 10, for your height you sound just right. Listen to your boyfriend and learn to love yourself for the way you were made, especially since you've said you exercise and eat right. :)

I gave up! I exercise, eat right (well most of the time) and still have a belly. Im a size 12 and looking back at my nan and my mum i have come to realise im just curvy and nothing is ever going to change that, its in the genes! So now i love my curves and i'm a lot happier in myself for loving them too! I feel more attractive now that i accept my shape insted of hating it!

Sounds all w@nk but it's true! :D

Don't worry so much about a flat stomach. Your rectus abdominis or the ones that 99% of the population tries to get flat aren't fictional. Worry more about your external and internal obliques(the ones on the side of your stomach which help you bend and twist your body)since they help you more in life and sports. Add twisting exercises to your workouts. Be careful though to make sure to rotate your hips with those movements.

You should just learn to love your body. I'm 5'4'' and weigh 105 lbs, and don't have a perfectly flat stomach. Women are supposed to have fat over their abdomen, it's a sign of health.

I'd give anything to get back up to 120 lbs, but I got a real shock to my system when I moved to Florida and was sick for several months so I lost a ton of weight.

Actually its important not to have a flat tummy. Women should have a small layer of fat around their womb to protect it. If you only have a spare tyre when you sit down you have nothing to worry about, thats normal. Its when you have one when you stand up its a problem.

if you have been working on your goal of a flat tummy for two years then dont give up now, consider getting a personal trainer who can target that area and get your body in the condition you want it to be in

Not to worry. It's more important to have good posture and well trained muscles, which I think you have. Nobody's picture perfect. But if you want to improve your abdominal region, why not try pilates training or similar.
