At 5 months old, he is looking to you for protection, and is friendly and outgoing, just as he should be at this age. as he matues, he will behave just as a Rottie should, being protective of his family, and yet friendly with strangers that are harmless..dogs really know who is a threat and who is noot..
However, if you do thngs to MAKE him aggressive, I will guarantee, and be willing to bet on, him turning on you when he is 4 years old.
that's just the way it works..Those are the stories you hear about these dogs, and what has happned when you hear of the dog turning on and mauling or killing his master...

You now have a very friendly Rot. Keep this dog that way. Train your dog in the right way. This Rot, if properly trained will be Loyal to you and your Best Friend. He will protect you and make you proud of him. BUT if you train him to be agressive and ferocious, then be prepared to loose your Rot. The dog will then become a menace to society. Dog Control will take your pet away from you and possibly fine you, for having a dog like that. Eventually, your Rotwiller will be destroyed. The Dog Control will take him away from you. So don't go that way. If you Love your Rot, you will want to protect him from being a bad dog.. It is not the dogs, fault , but YOURS !!!

A five month old pup SHOULD be very friendly. This dog is still a baby. If the pup were aggressive at this tender age, the best thing to do would be to euthanize him, as when he did mature, he would be totally uncontrollable.

As the dog matures, he should still remain friendly to neutral strangers or friends coming over to visit. But he will begin to display wariness to people who aren't friendly. Wariness, not hostility!

The only time a dog should show actual aggression is if a person is physicallly threatening their human or if someone is trying to break into the home.

No dog is a good protection dog if they have to be confined because they are ferocious and aggressive to normal visitors. If the dog is locked in another room or crated or, worse still, tied out in the yard, how can it possibly come to your defense if needed? The dog has to be at your side, behaving calmly, for it to be free to defend you should the occasion arise.

Look into plain obedience training for this boy. His nature will have him leaping to your defense should the occasion ever require it...but not until he is grown up! Would you expect a 7 year old child to defend an adult? This is kind of what you are expecting wanting a 5 month old pup to be aggressive!

Then you need to be turned over to your local Humane Society or ASPCA as this is dangerous and totally uncalled for and proves to me that you are NOT a responsible pet owner.
To teach a dog to be ferocious and aggressive is WRONG and you will never know who this dog will push this behavior on . . .you included and then what will you do...beat the animal?
You DO NOT NEED an animal of any kind if this is the way you intend to treat them!!!!!
I hope that someone who knows of your intentions does just that and turns you in or takes the dog from you and I hope that no one tells you how to MISTREAT this animal.
This question REALLY tells me what kind of a person you are and in my opinion that is nothing more than scum.

My thoughts and prayers are with the dog as there is still hope for the dog,you I am not so sure about!!!! IDIOT!!!

It's interesting that you asked this question. Are you planning on using your dog for fighting? If so, this is illegal in every state and will result in your arrest and the surrendering of your animal.

If you think you won't get caught, think again. There are task forces that specialize in this behavior, because, as you may already know, dog fighting is associated with illegal gambling, gangs and violence.

If you're intent on using your dog for sport, have you considered weight pulling? Because many of these breeds are great athletes, they have the ability to pull many times their weight. This can be a fun and HEALTHY alternative to what could be a life-threatening situation for you and your dog.

If you only want your dog for protection, be assured that all dogs become very loyal to their owners WHEN PROPERLY TAKEN CARE OF (i.e. plenty of food and fresh water, a comfortable place to sleep, excercise and love). Many dogs--even smaller ones--have been known to act aggressively toward intruders when they think their owner is being attacked. This is an instinct and does not warrant any training to do so.

Keep in mind that we live in a world of animal lovers, and if you're seen mistreating your dog, there's no doubt someone will turn you in. Is your idea of looking "tough" worthy of jailtime? In many areas, animal abuse is considered a felony, which will severely limit your ability to get a job.

I urge you to think long and hard before doing anything. Personally, I don't think you're prepared for a dog--you obviously aren't mature enough for one by your post. Take the dog to your local shelter and reliquish it.

I know you'll do the right thing...

Why would you want that? Rottweilers are the type of dog who are easy to make aggressive, in most cases, and they're the type of dog who can turn on you if they are aggressive and mean. I don't really think this is a serious question, because a rottweiler can kill you... A nice rottweiler can be dangerous, let alone a mean one. Don't try to make it dangerous, because it'll only end up bad for you. It will either hurt you, or someone else. If your dog hurts someone else, you get in trouble for it because it's your responsibility. If you get hurt, well, you get hurt because of your own stupidity. The dog will end up getting put to sleep. Rottweilers are great dogs, I've had them my whole life, it's people like you that give them a bad name. Don't turn a potentially wonderful loving dog into a mean aggressive biter. It will just end up getting killed, and you'll end up with some legal problems.

Why so the local dog warden takes him to euthanize.

A good dog can tell the difference between good and bad and only attack on command.

I have an old dog that barely moves but because she is so big everyone is scared of her. Enjoy the companionship of a good natured pet. Rotties ate euthanized everyday at the shelter.

Why? Are looking to give your dog a death sentence? The first time he attacks someone, he is as good as dead. Not to mention, YOU will be held responsible and could face jail time. He can be protective with out being aggressive and ferocious!

Rottweilers are very protective of their masters and at 5 months really don't show signs of how aggressive and protective they can be. Within a few months you will wittiness just how protective he/she will be. I envy you because we had a Rottweiler who was so protective that he wouldn't let anyone, even our other dog get close to my b/f. When my b/f was sick Bo (the Rottweiler) would not leave his side. Sadly he was hit by a car and killed, but he waited until my b/f got to him before he let go completely and died. I guess he wanted to tell him goodbye.
Anyway, don't worry, your dog will be all you want him/her to be and more.

First off why would you want this of your dog. This type of behavior makes their breed look bad. Rots are very sweet and gentle dogs and should not be aggressive. They can be trained to be protective if someobne is trying to harm you ect. But they should never be taught to be aggressive. If you want something aggressive get a cat.
