Go to this site http://www.cdc.gov/travel/wafrica.htm#vaccines. Call your ped and ask whether an 8 month old can tolerate the various inoculations listed. I'm not a doctor but I've traveled in the 3rd world and taken mefloquine to combat malaria and know that children under 2 are not supposed to take it. Frankly, I think he's too young given the variety of west African diseases that you can not protect him against with vaccines.

You can migrate within reason anywhere in the world at any age just make sure that you have all got your shots and anything else you may need before you go.
Consult your doctor to make sure your sun is old enough to cope with all the different meds you will all have to take before and after you get to Ghana.

My nieces went (2 yrs. and 5 yrs.) but they had to get a special shot. I think it was for something called Yellow Fever. It was an ordeal to get the vaccination as many offices do not even have it. Since he is so young, see the doc and follow his recommendations.

he is old enough. just check with the dr. to see if he needs any shots before he goes. some 3d world countries have diseases that we don't have. when u get there and if u formula feed, use the bottled water to make it. bring a thermometer, baby motrin or tylenol or some kind of overthe counter medication. your dr. number and all sorts of numbers to call in case of emergency and questions.
enjoy your trip

I would talk to his doctor, there are many diseases and viruses we do not have in the US, see if he is old enough for the vaccines.

I WOULD RECCOMEND YOU WAIT UNTIL HE IS OLDER BECAUSE WHEN YOU GO TO AFRICA YOU HAVE TO TAKE MALERIA TABLETS AND HAVE ALL MANNER OF VACCINATIONS WHICH BABIES CANNOT HAVE. IF I WERE YOU I WOULD VISIT YOUR DOCTOR WHO WILL TELL YOU ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW.
