LOL Goodness, I hope not! If it is, we're all in trouble.

First, no child needs the volume of candy they get in one night on Halloween. You're doing him a favor! :-)

When I was little, my mom would always check our candy first, and somehow, my sister and I got it in our heads she was checking it for staples bad people would have put in them (although she swears she never told us this). However, Reeses cups and Almond Joys were NEVER safe for us to eat. :-D

I picked out certain of my kids' candy. Some of it, I just did to put away because I'll be danged if I'm gonna be kept up into the middle of the night because they've filled themselves with sugar and are all hyper. Some of it (DOTS, in particular) are because I don't want to mess with having to brush their teeth after dealing with that mess, and YES I brush their teeth, but if you've eaten the things, you know how difficult it is to scrub off. My kids' dentist said that as far as candy goes, chocolate is actually better than all the chewy or sticky stuff, since it washes off easier. And some of it, you know, is because I LIKE THE CANDY!!!!!! LOL

I did come up with a way to keep them happy, and to soothe my conscience. I bought a bag of candy I'm okay with them having (Hershey's Miniatures... following the chocolate advice), and some packs of healthier snacks or stickers or something. They go trick-or-treating and are all wrapped up in what they're doing, and they don't notice much of the details about what they're getting. Last night, after they were in bed, my husband and I went in and replaced a lot of their candy with the healthier snacks, stickers, and chocolate, cutting down on the sugar they get, and the KIND of sugar it is. You really have to prepare, though, because we got the pretzel and granola bar packages in the Halloween packaging, and quite honestly, my kids have no idea that there's anything missing. I also have to remember, though, that my five-year-old remembered getting M&M's, so I leave at least one or two packs of them in there (but I did replace one full-size pack with the snack-pack).

I don't think you're a bad man for eating your childs' Halloween candy. Just make sure he gets a little (that is, after all, the payment you have to make for taking him trick-or-treating to begin with)

You can have all the candy you want...it doesn't make you a bad man. Remember you gotta take care of yourself first in order to take care of them . Happy parents happy children. All that sugar will only keep them up all night anyway ;-)
Cheers!

Well, you know that there has "got" to be some in there that they are not going to like, and if you don't eat it then it will just go to waste and get thrown out.. My kids are just 2 and 6 months so I know that there is some that they can't eat.. Man I love Halloween, and I miss tricker treating..lol

Not only is it ok, It is your parental duty to help your child eat that candy.
-You need to teach your children the lesson of sharing, especially with the ones who feed and cloth them.
-You can not add to the statistics of child obesity.
-Think of all the cavities you are saving them from.
-They can't possibly eat all of that candy, and you can't let it go to waste. Think of the starving children in Africa.

You are a great Daddy, and I hope your kids appreciate the sacrifices you are making for them. I say, eat on. =)

No...parent tax. With all the hundreds of thousands of dollars you are going to spend on them in there life times, a few pieces of candy wont tip the balance in there favor.

WELLLLLL....... You have to check the candy out to make sure it is safe for them to eat and after it is already unwrapped, you have to taste test if you don't you just have to throw it out....May as well go ahead and enjoy. There may be SEVERAL pieces that you have to question. Just to be on the safe side....You know....

No! Every parent does. Think of it as your annual reward for being a good parent. Who can resist all of that chocolate? Not even a martyr could!

I take 25%, as soon as we get home, as my fee.

As for the candy they have left over, I ask before taking any.
