Kerry's remarks either show a lack of good judgment (at best) or an inherent prejudice against the military (at worst).
I would love to hear an explanation of how his quote could be construed as an insult to President Bush and not an insult to troops. Honestly, if there is a double-entendre or some other slight of speech that I missed, please fill me in. For Pete's sake, President Bush even got better grades than Kerry at Yale.
The only political spin I see comes from Republicans that are trying to link all Democrats to that statement and from Democrats who are trying to pretend Kerry meant something that is impossible to even infer from the context of his speech.
John Kerry's remarks show his arrogance, elitism, and prejudice. Impoverished people joining the military because they can't afford college? The middle class can't afford college (not that Kerry would know that). Additionally, military enlistees are better educated and have a greater net worth than their civilian peers. Just because John Kerry served a whole four months in Vietnam doesn't mean he's immune to criticism.

I'm not in the military, but I am amazed and upset over it. I would not have believed it if I hadn't seen it. How he can now make the excuse that he was talking about Bush, when the word "Bush" was never mentioned, shows just how arrogant and foolish he really is. HOW DARE HE?! He betrayed the men he fought with when he came home from Viet Nam when he testified in front of Congress and called them "murderers" and he says this now. Unbelievable!!! I just want to add that I appreciate the sacrifices the military and their families are making for us. Thank you and God bless you all!!

I find it disgusting.
How dare he back off what he said and start saying he was basing Bush or making a joke. What a crock. And I"m not making any pro Bush or war statements here.
He is an Elitist and he made an elitist statement.
He can't step back and realize what he said and see it from the eyes of our men and women serving or from my eyes, the mother of two members of the military? My children in the military are extremely bright, contributing members of society. They love their country and serve for that reason. They would lay down their lives for their country and this makes them dumb? Excuse me. I take it as an insult to them and to their father and I who raised them for what they are responsible, respectful people who both happened to be honor students!
Mr. Kerry needs to BE A MAN and realize what he said was wrong...any way you look at it.
I don't care how someone feels about the war and Bush (and by the way, I think we're on the wrong damn course and I voted for Kerry)
But you have to realize military members take an oath to serve their country. What Kerry said can only be construed one way and that is a direct insult to all member of the military.
He should be ashamed. And as a former military member he should be doubly ashamed.

I lean more on the liberal democrat side but i find this repulsive. Please dont let one remark from one guy represent all democrats. Thats like if bush does something repulsive saying he represents all republicans and that is why i hate all of them. Dont hold a whole group account for one persons idiotness. Sorry im flustered over the remarks so im not typing right.

Kerry was slaming Bush but Bush tried to use it to his advantage. All politics. The military are doing a great job and should have more troops in Iraq in order to help do a better job. Bush is being negligent in not sending more troops.

I think Kerry is addicted to the flavor of his own shoe leather. He's a politician. He should know how to open his mouth without putting his foot in it all the way to the knee. Also, I think his comments were, at best, in poor taste and at worst, unconscionable.

In John Kerry's deliberate attempt to discredit Gorge Bush he eventually discredits himself. This is all to common with persons with ultra ego personalities; their need to belittle others to establish unrealistic point.

He was talking about bush's intelligence or lack there of. Unfortunately he said it in such a way as the conservative spin machine could use it against him. Over all much ado about nothing as Kerry isn't on the ballot.
