Where do you stand on the whole illegal situation? How would you solve the problem?

I'm against; but i do realize that a small portion should be given amnesty,(Speaking of only thousands, not millions) The rest should be deported back to their native land and some should be given a temporary VISA on probation to see if it would work for them to be citizens, If not, they go back too, But only people who honestly turn themselves in should be given such opportunities.

An idealist view would be to say " they're all illegal. GET THEM OUT". But in reality, that wouldn't happen.
I just think we should stop anymore from coming but deal with the people we already have.

Sometimes you just have to meet in the middle.

Against illegals. Gradually deport them as we find 'em. Their jobs can go to Americans: teenagers, the unemployed, the poor, those on welfare, etc. Put an armed force on the border, maybe land mines, possibly electrify the fence. Put some danger there to discourage the illegals. Penalties to those who offer some form of help to the illegals. Largest fines go to employers, then those who give them shelter, also people who provide them food. Take away the free health care so they have to pay for it. Also do checks for health care, so if the illegal wants to pop out a baby or something, that person will know that they are going to be helped and deported, or they can stay and try to fix it on their own.

I wish we could help everyone, but it has to be controlled. No matter what idealists say, it has a negative impact in the economy. This has been proved by history. Noticed I say controlled, not stopped.

This is not a problem that can be solved by the U.S. Mexico has to improve its economy (I say Mexico because it is the largest supplier of illegals, but there are other countries). As long as people have a will to feed their family or to improve their quality of life, we will have a "problem" as you describe it. I prefer to call it a situation because to them is not a problem, it is an opportunity.

I'd solve the problem by cracking down on companies who illegally HIRE the illegals & exploit them for cheap labor (and, in so doing, take jobs away from legal Americans). All the illegals are trying to do is feed their families, provide some sort of home, clothes, etc. These people are starving to death in their home country, and they're in survival mode - something most Americans will never (thankfully) truly understand (Hurricane Katrina victims aside). if you were in the same circumstance - would YOU not to do WHATEVER IT TOOK to provide for your family??....even if that meant being an illegal immigrant in some other country? If it's between that or watch your family starve to death, or die because of lack of medication - I know what I would do.

The MAGNET that is drawing illegal aliens in to the U.S. are the corporations who ILLEGALLY exploit these workers and pay them wages legal Americans could never live on.

I say crackdown on those corporations & businesses.....if you shut off the magnet, you shut off the attraction.

Illegals are great for this country. They help keep it running by doing the hard labor. I would solve the problem by giving out ammesty to all illegals.

I came 25 years ago and stood in line for 1.5 years to get my immigration call. Every illegal should go back and stand in line and come legally. Some may argue that their children are US citizen. So what? They don't lose their US citizenship. If they are old enough to stay, let them stay here, but parents must go back.

Lets look at the situation logically. How feasible is it to round up everyone in this country that "looks" like they could be here illegally to check their credentials? Looks is in parentheses because you must also be able to identify the european illegals as well in order to be just.

The '86 amnesty failed in its' goal of stopping illegal immigration, as the enforcement never materialized to put any weight behind the laws.

Lawyers just LOVE the immigration issue, because for them, it's Big Buxx! LOL Normal americans, though, with normal paychecks, wonder what's really going to come out of all of this...
Mexico's got a real fire lit to move north as much as they can,
and there's other countries that'd like it whole bunches if they could 'run for the border' too...

My opinion is, first prove that it's even possible to make a fair-sized dent in the number of people coming to america illegally every year. After that, start talking about whatever other ideas might present themselves to deal with the issue. But, go enforcement FIRST...that's pretty much what they seem to have gone with, but you know how politicians can be when they think nobody's looking! LOL

I think mass amnesty is a big mistake, because that's going to tell the rest of the world that they can move in at-will, and nothing will ever come of it, when all is said and done.

I think on one hand, it's a huge compliment to our country to have so many people willing to break the law to be in it, on the other hand, there's always the motives of the people to be considered...
the country's changing, the world itself has changed, there's billions of people where there used to be millions, it's going to be interesting when we start talking about resource shortages...
some people think runaway growth is this great thing, I think it's got a darker and more negative potential...we don't want to end up like some other countries that've fallen victim to overpopulation, and we're headed in that general direction at a pretty rapid clip. India's probably saying 'yeah, feel OUR pain!' or something along those lines, you want to read about stuff like the Dust Bowl, good fodder for discussion, there.

Bottom line, though, we're being sold a mother of a sob-story from some people whose home countries have really blown it in grand style in terms of meeting their populations' needs, and a lot of all of this really is about money.

I predict it's going to become a Big Mess, in some states it already is, and that's why it's so very important, in my view at least, to insist on legal immigration only. If the whole thing just descends into a big racket, we'll end up wishing it hadn't...and paying for it forever...

I think some people DO need to be sent home, if for no other reason than to prove that yes, our borders DO mean something,
and if they're not respected, there'll be consequences. For people that've been living in the country for more than a decade, though, I think if the ICE hasn't caught up with em by now, they need to come forward and go ahead and apply for citizenship.
The end result should be a much stricter approach toward immigration, with an eye to the view that the world has relatively speaking, become a much smaller place, country's not for sale, so forth and so on...catholics want more immigration/amnesty etc., and if the catholics support it, I'm automatically suspicious...I don't believe they're willing to be neutral in terms of politics, and I think organized religion's done a superlative job of proving they're not on the same plane as the reality that the majority recognizes, which is the simple fact that 'go forth and multiply' as a general philosophy has more or less had its' day, and they really shouldn't be preaching that crap anymore.

The catholic church gets a lot of money from its' followers, and the people that run it really like that. They like it a LOT. They like it SO much, they really give a crap what happens to the country that their followers are going forth and multiplying in...hence, my aversion to their style of 'leadership' or what you may call it.

This is the 21st century, they aren't making any more land. We don't want widespread poverty and famine in the United States, and this has manifested itself already in countries with no policy on population control and/or economic base worth mentioning.

Hard facts, hard science, these are the tools that need to be utilized in helping to guide not just our country, but all countries, toward a sustainable future. Otherwise, we're gonna end up with a pretty chaotic mess...to avoid having that in america, at some point we have to say 'no more' with illegal immigration. I think we're pretty much there...
