I have an 18 month old male cat that was nutered whrn he was about 4 months old. Everytime i leave a plastic bag on the floor he pees on it. I have tried everthing to get him to stop but nothing works. Can anyone explain why he would do this? I have taken him to the vet and he is in perfect heath so ther really is no reason behind this odd behavior.

I do not leave bags lying around intentionally. You can go to the store and be in the process of putting stuff away in other bags and he will pee on the bags that you have not gotten to yet, even if you have them on the table.

Cats have different temperments to what they like to use for their washroom environment. It seems your cat likes the feel of plastic. You best bet is to either put a bag into the little box under a small amount of little, or leave the little box with only a thin layer of little so that you cat can get down the the bottom plastic. It may help. You can also try the plastic pelette.
In my case my cats always peed in cardboard boxes, so I eventually ended up buying pine litter. It doesnt trap smell as well as the sandy stuff, but they only pee in the box now.

My old cat used to do that. He had a litter box, and also was able to go outside whenever he wanted, and yet if he found a plastic bag, sure enough he would pee on it.
I have no idea why he did it- but the easiest solution is to make sure you don't leave any plastic bags laying around where he can pee on it. It doesn't have anything to do with being neutered.

This is normal for a cat. The plastic bag gives the cat the same digging sensation as cat litter. The obvious solution is don't leave plastic bags on the floor. Also make sure his regular box is clean. Some cats will soil outside their box if the box is a little dirty.

Respectfully, just because a cat is neutured they don't stop peeing. The plastic bag is something your cat is attracted to. I have a cat that will be 21 yrs. old on March 2nd. He's attracted to newspapers, but uses a litterbox to pee in.

Probably because it's something new in the house and he isn't fond of the smell. Could be the warehouse or shipping gave it an odd odor he's not keen on so he's trying to disguise it by putting his own scent on it. I would stop leaving plastic bags on the floor. :)

well, at least it's not the floor so you can easily clean it up. lol! don't leave plastic bags around. :-) if it isn't a medical problem then it's a behavioral problem. call your vet for some ideas on what you can do to correct this behavior.

Male cats still pee after their neutered. Well if your kindof nervous try another vet, but male cats still do that so it is not a problem. Try checking his litter box to see if its clean also.
Good Luck

I knew a cat that did this. If you brought groceries in you had to unbag them asap and get rid of the bag fast.

Maybe the bag smells either especially good or bad to him. Or the bag is associated with something to him.

He must either like the sound or hate the smell.
