I would like to give you a really good excuse, but I have to admit, it is just plain laziness. I always enjoy the time at church but if giving the chance I will not go, I would much rather lay around reading the Sunday paper and watching the race. Now I feel like crap for telling you that, I will go to church this Sunday, thanks.

My choice to not go to church is actually spiritual in nature. I feel God will love me no matter where I am on Sunday.
The roof of my church is the sky above our heads. The floor of my church is the ground beneath our feet. There are no walls to my church, nothing to separate us from the rest of humanity. The music in my church are the birds singing in the trees, and the rustle of the wind through the leaves, the ocean waves crashing on a beach.
My grandfather came from a devout baptist upbringing, and he saw family members donating to these evangelical born again preachers. He told me he saw through them as crooks, and hustlers preaching the word of God to only live in rich mansions, and trying to control peoples lives. It was my grandfather who came up with the inspiration for the previous paragraph, and it's something I live by.

My husband and I are not religious. While we do believe in a higher being/entity/whatever, we don't believe in organized religion and therefore don't want to spend our time or money where we don't think it's beneficial or relevant to our lives. Additionally, we don't like religious people who follow religion blindly and believe in something they read in a book that can't be verified at all... so we try to stay away from them and stick to our progressive, intellectual friends. But we do respect others right to engage in religion and go to church.

Because I'm not religious. I like to stay in bed on a Sunday after a night on the town and 10 pints of Stella.

The reason why I sometimes don't go to church is b/c my dad doesn't get home until real late at night and he wants to sleep in.

I grew up in an ultra religious household, with lots of structured "jesus" time. I still keep my faith in the values I use, but I don't feel the need to go to a building to find God. God is everywhere I go and in everything I see. I don't need to look or pray to find peace and acceptance.

Bree, if it were up to me you would get the best answer. I agree with 100% of what you said.
I think there are two many forms of organized religion that all think they are the only ones who are "doing it right." That kind of arrogance alone is enough to keep me away.
