in other words for us to be good at doing things and have lots of skills and improve ourselves constantly?

Or just to devote ourselves to a life of worship?

Is there anywhere in the bible that says this?

Think about it. By imposing fear and paranoia upon the masses, this christian god is already limiting our potential. Look what "it" has done to the people already! Theres people who actually believe..and even FEAR this made up entity! Insane isnt it? This shows us that religion was created to govern the people.

God wants you to be generous. Mercyful. Happy people are generous and mercyful and make other people happy. So Lord wants you to be happy. Being an accomlished individual makes you happy ? Than go on.
I passed through this question myself.
I am not a theologist, yet i am a christian and i think being happy sporeads happiness in the world arround you, increasing the universal happyness, so i think the more i am skilled and accomplished as an individual, trhe more i can be useful to other people happiness.
Christianism is about LOVE, not about worship and devotion, so make it the way you feel ... but make it with love.
But please do not take success for value, accomplish your individuality in value and not in success...

I don't know. God wants what is best for us; if this means improving oneself, then yes. Don't worry about what the bible says; it's only a book written thousands of years ago.

The true fasting chapter of Isaiah generally says get to work!

Is 58:5Is it such a fast that I have chosen? a day for a man to afflict his soul? is it to bow down his head as a bulrush, and to spread sackcloth and ashes under him? wilt thou call this a fast, and an acceptable day to the Lord?

Is 58:6Is not this the fast that I have chosen? to loose the bands of wickedness, to undo the heavy burdens, and to let the oppressed go free, and that ye break every yoke?

Is 58:7Is it not to deal thy bread to the hungry, and that thou bring the poor that are cast out to thy house? when thou seest the naked, that thou cover him; and that thou hide not thyself from thine own flesh?

Is 58:8Then shall thy light break forth as the morning, and thine health shall spring forth speedily: and thy righteousness shall go before thee; the glory of the Lord shall be thy rearward.

He wants us to do BOTH.....the Bible speaks of being diligent in everything you do, not being slothful, studying to show yourself approved, but to do all for the glory of God.
