elderly people during the day? My grandmother is taking care of my grandfather who has parkinsons diesease and she is just exhausted. She wants him to go somewere for about 5 hours a few times a week so she can get a break. Everyone in the family works or has children, we help out a little, but she wants a few hours at a time. He can't even pull zippers. Is there such a place? Like a elderly daycare? I'm in NY.

Absolutely!
There are facilities EVERYWHERE for adult day care that are good for the person attending (have those to help w/ general care, they are socializing, getting out...they get to participate in activities & helps with sense of well-being) & also to give the caretakers/ family a bit of respite.
There are also many agencies that will come to your home a few hours a day. Many for the costs are / can be paid for by medicare, health insurance, local/ community agencies...
I have taken care of my late hubby's mom w/ COPD and grandma w/ atzhiemer's.
I also cared for my disabled aunt for a few years...
Help is there, just look around....
I started by asking the local human resource department of our health & human resources department in our town and they helped with providing a list of available options/ facilities/ care providers in our area.
You need to find the health & human resource dept in your area of a list of options.
I also found the following website that may help... http://eldercare.gov/Eldercare/Public/Home.asp

Good luck to you and your family!!! Hugs to your gramma & grandpap!

Depending on where in NY you are, there are places like that. You can call the local dept. of social services and they should be able to tell you where to start. I know in the Binghamton area Susquehanna Nursing Center has Golden Days Adult Day Health Care.

Just go online and type in elderly daycare NY and you will find all kinds of daycare for adults. Also maybe you could contact your local catholic charities and see if they could help. Its not just for catholic people. Good Luck

Yes, there are. Contact your local public fiduciary and find out what day programs are available for the elderly.

Alot of retirement homes take care of people during the day. My husbands grandma takes care of a disabled person and she send him to a place called S.O.L.O during the day

There's quite a few around here (Indiana). They're called adult day care. Usually a nursing home offers this service.
