I do not believe it does. God looks on the heart while man looks on the outward appearence.

Absolutely. Too often people think dressing up is a sign of respect for God, because you are going to a little extra trouble. But then it can turn into a bidding war. Is God more impressed by a $30 suit or a $300 suit? God couldn't care less how you look. He's seen everyone naked.
That said, there is something to be said for "conforming" in church. They ask you to turn off your cell phone because it's distracting. Someone who comes with spikey purple hair is likely seeking some kind of attention. Why have they come to church? If you are wearing a T-shirt with a Nike swoosh or a beer slogan on the back, the person behind you will not be thinking about God during the service. There's nothing wrong with these clothes or styles, especially if everyone is being "out there", but if it's distracting worshippers from worshipping, it's insulting.
Where is the line? Is a golf shirt okay? Can women wear pants? It depends on the congregation. Some are stuffy, some are casual. The point is the worship, not making a point of some kind. You can talk about dress codes afterwards, but during worship, anything that stands out, that draws the attention from the task at hand is disrespectful of fellow worshippers.

You're right - it doesn't matter. I haven't been in a church that expects it, but a lot of people do. I wear jeans to church. Some people wear dresses and ties.
I think it is more out of respect in a way. It is not required, but think about the rest your life. If you're going to meet a dignitary, a leader of your country or something, you'd most likely dress up. If you go to a wedding, or a funeral, you dress up. Church is a celebration, and a meeting with the King. I'd say it is a personal choice how you feel you should dress at church.

That is the typical understanding you have of church dress, in all actuality, a church should not require a certain dress, as opposed to religion. I do not like to use the word "religion." For that is mans attempt in their best efforts to get right with God. Many different demoninations, or practices, that people follow that makes them feel like they can get in "good standing" with our creator. Thats why there are so many conflicts between these "religions" and people are fighting over it. Thats the result of tainting God's plan. We forget the reason Jesus came and died for us! He came so that we would have the true way back to the Father, and that He would establish the TRUE way of living. Thus, Christianity, which means Christ-like or little-Christ, is NOT a religion but merely the lifestyle of Christ that we are to replicate. Not by our own efforts, but made possible by the Holy Spirit in a relationship with Jesus Christ. Accept His Gift of salvation and experience the life of abundance. May the Lord Bless You Abundantly!!!

True, but you are also supposed to give your best to God. So people try to sing their best, act their best, listen their best, and dress their best when in the presence of God.
Dressing up takes time & effort, and it implies self-discipline (that is why the military often requires solders to dress well and look as neat and as well dressed as they can before going outside and crawling through the mud). Putting forth time & effort for God implies that you care.
Of course, dressing too relaxed, too flashy, or too sexy at church can be a distraction for other people too. They are supposed to be thinking about God, not you, so you are expected to dress appropriately so that you do not stick out so much that you become a distraction -- it is considered to be inconsiderate to do so.

It must be for show and tell. Will you go naked into a family swimming pool? So it the outside that everybody see, nobody can search your soul and brains to find inside of you that you really are a saint, you don't even dare to go into a shopping mall dressed as you desire, because I know people will stare at you and you may not want that. Amen

I agree. Well the chruch I used to attend regularly is full of old people so I had to dress nice. It's like a sign of respect I guess but now that I'm twenty I guess I could go in jeans and not care what anybody thinks.

I don't have nice clothes but I do wear what would be the best of my clothes to church because I'm presenting my self in the house of the Lord -not to impress anyone else. My best is blue jeans and sneakers no one has ever downed me for that we are all there to Glorify God.

while your comments are accurate it's very sad that people will spend hundreds of dollars to wear clothes out on a date, dress up for work or even worry more about their appearance for running to the grocery store and yet, when they come to GOd's house it's a catch as catch can. your clothing doesn't have to be fancy or modern. would you walk into the home of a friend or family member for a gathering dressed like a slob?!

You are to Give the Lord your very best , inside and out, many people I understand and have met do whats called "play Church"
And believe in a Monday through Saturday backsliding and Sunday salvation.
This is one , but not the only reason[s] I disagree with the doctrine of Eernal Security.
These people are like the ones mentioned in Matt 7:21
Mat 7:21 ¶ Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.
Mat 7:22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?
Mat 7:23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

I think the original idea was to show respect for God by wearing your very best.
Nowadays, at many churches people dress very casually (even blue jeans and shorts).
