I have a pure bred female pit bull that is in heat. My neigbor's dog which is a pure bred rottweiller obvously knew this and dug a hole under the fence to get to her and has, how can I say this, consummated their relationship. At first I did not realize what was going on because when I looked outside, they were backed up butt to butt. I ran the rottweiller off and when I did, I saw that they were indeed mating. Has anyone seen this type of mating before. PS- Several days later he was back again and mounted her the right way- on her back.
And, would she be immediatley pregnant and how would I know? I am extremely upset about this.

The correct terminology for the 'butt to butt' is a 'tie'. It means the male has successfully penetrated and is implanting sperm. It is also very likely that your female is pregnant.

You can avoid having pups by taking your girl to the vet immediately. There are 'morning after' shots for dogs. The vet can also do a spay/abortion. Pits are notorious for having very large litters, usually over 10 at a time. Unless you are willing to deal with the expense and responsibility of finding good homes for nearly a dozen Rott/Pit mixes, it might be better to end the pregnancy now.

Whenever you have a female in season, it is up to you to be sure she cannot be reached by males. Males will dig under, break through or climb/jump over fences (as you have learned). The best way to be sure your female won't be reached by a male is to keep her inside unless you are actively standing with her outside.

Yes it is commonly called "the tie". After the male has ejaculated his penis is so swollen he can't get loose.

There is a good chance your girl is pregnant. If you do not want the puppies you can ask for the shot that aborts pregnancy, but a lot of vets don't do it due to the nasty side affects.

You can also have her spayed like today! Make sure you tell the vet the she has been bred. The surgery may be a little more spendy than the a normal spay, but since your dog is in heat there is a larger amount of blood flow and the risk is higher. Although this is a common remedy to an unwanted pregnancy.

Good luck.

Well after looking at all the other answers this is what I must suggest. First off if you don't want the pups don't worry about the expensive test from the vet and put that money towards the spay. Secondly, your best option at this point is as everyone has said the spay option in which it will cost you a little more beings she is in heat and more than likely bred. Look at it this way...spending a little money now saves a BIG headache in the future and remember after having her spayed you won't have to worry about the horny rott next door again!

Yes, this is common. Dogs are made to "lock together" during mating. They will begin mating the correct way, but many times the male falls off and since they are locked together, he gets turned around and can't get away. She is probably indeed pregnant. If she will stand for the male, it means she was in heat and is now pregnant. If you discover something like this in the future, just run a bucket full of cold water and throw it on them. It acts like a cold shower and they will react to it by losing their amorous intentions.

When dogs mate they mount the right way, as they are finishing the male will dismount but stay connected (called tying). They are butt to butt during tying. She is probably pregnant if he's bred her twice. I'd get her spayed so you're not bringing more unwanted puppies into the world.

I have seen this, when i was younger and didn't know anything about mating. Now i do know that this is how it can happen. My dog was pregnant. the only way i found out was by bringing her to the vet and they do a blood test. caution they are not cheap. it was $120.00 dollars. The vet will not do a test until they are at least 25 days along.

It's normal. They generally get started male on top then switch so they can both stand comfortably while they're tied. There's a pretty good chance she got pregnant the first time. Only took once to make 11 shepherd puppies. Sorry and good luck

Sorry, I'm a girl answering, but it makes sense that a guy finds a girl attractive who looks good, proportionate and healthy. If the boobs look way too big for her tiny body or the butt sticks out really far, it might look weird! As long as the girl looks good and is confident, I could imagine guys liking her. :)

I hope you take her to get fixed asap! Dont bring more unwanted pups into this world. Just look at petfinder, the number of pitbulls with out homes: WWW.petfinder.com These are the lucky ones, most are euthanized (killed) and thrown away. Why add to this? Besides, its healthier for your dog to have her spayed, improve her life expectancy and less chance of female health complications.

They always rotate like that when they tie. The dogs penis is designed for this. She will be pregnant since they had the tie. There's no way around it. Your vet can give her a shot that will cause her to abort but it's pretty hard on her.
