it was the written mouth-piece of the , as was then, powers that be.
and is still held as such, today by the various "christian" bodies, to control, as you say the peasants, or un-educated.
its all a load of tosh, written by a bunch of power hungry pillox.
and yes in this enlightened, and technological society, it should be questioned, scrutinised, and proven beyond a shadow of doubt, to be based on bunk!

The bible was originally compiled and approved for one purpose only, so all the churches would know for sure what could be legitimately read during public liturgy. It was a long process spanning 4 centuries with truckloads of "writings" that failed the test of apostolicity. I think the bible should be used as a lens to seek answers

The Early Church Fathers were always asking questions. Todays bishops are continually asking questions. We know that morality is necessary for our salvation. Certain stem cell research, in vitro fertilization, these things are immoral. But they are not in the Bible. So where does that leave the Bible when you have no authority to say what it means?

Everything should be questioned before it is excepted as true.
There is too much acceptance and not enough critical evaluation within Christianity. It has been said that 95% if everything labeled "Christianity" is just piddling nonsense. Why? Too much believing what they have been brought up to believe and not enough serious study, thought and consideration. If something is true, it will stand up to reasonable question and debate.

The Bible has to be questioned if you don't have a valid, authoritative source of interpretation. That's why Protestantism has fragmented into thousands of conflicting denominations within a few hundred years, primarily over differences in biblical interpretation. That's also why the Catholic Church, to which God gave the Bible and the responsibility of interpreting it, has remained unified in teaching, unified in beliefs, and unified in worship for 2,000 years. Anyone could have predicted the result of saying "just read the Bible yourself and God will reveal the truth to you". The Bible itself states that the Church Christ founded is "the pillar and foundation of truth". Removed from its pillars and foundation, any structure is bound to weaken, distort, and eventually collapse.

But it won't answer back with answers for your questions. Asking God does help though.

Clearly, if you come earnestly and sincerely seeking the truth, you will find answers.

There is a quote by Augustine which goes "Seek not to understand that you may believe, but believe that you may understand".

Regarding the truth the bible says that he gives his Spirit freely to all who asks him - the Spirit of truth, which willl lead you into all that you need to know.

Thats exactly right, its human nature to question things of uncertainty, but its Gods will that you search it out for yourself. His word is collected in a series of 66 books all contain into one. Im sure you'll find, if you havent already, that it is of the purest truth and is none less. Our lives are a realization process, we grow up to the point that we can understand and think for ourselves, and we start to question, and sooner or later your faced with the decision of accepting Christ. In a relationship with Him, you learn who God is to you, and what He wants to do with your life! But i say realization because we learn about Him. We realizae the ways He already works, because Hes the same today as He was when He created the universe, and He'll always be the same! The Bible itself says to "Study to show yourselves approved"

Despite what some people with deep seated paranoia tendencies say the Bible is about freedom in God by Christ NOT submission by ignorance.

Some of the most mundane and meaningless 'modern art' was made to question - but it doesn't make it meaningful or good.

Questions are good. :-)

As for the bible, its just a book of word of mouth stories that have been exaggerated over the years.
