i don't see his reasoning. opium is a drug. individuals take drugs for their own individual gratification. the masses are not one entity like an individual. i don't see religion as something that individuals can get addicted to. on the contrary, people acting as individuals tend to reject religion. the masses are a collection of individuals making individual choices not one entity choosing as one. in any case, which religion ? why not christianity is the opium of the masses, islam... ? i can see why he would want to make some point about religion but i don't think that this was a good one.

Ashley...I am not one of Jehovah's Witnesses but do know the religion very well. I can tell you my heart goes out to you and the situation you find yourself in. I am an ex police officer and I also worked in a treatment facility with sex offenders. So my opinion is coming from experience. The things you described are not normal behaviors for men but are very typical of pedophiles. You need to be very careful and stay away from this man. I would love to see you go to the police. He will move on to another child if he has lost contact with you. Please know you have the right to go to the authorities if you choose. It not only could protect you but also any other victims he may have. You should NEVER feel that anyone has the right to hold your hand or give you hugs or any other physical touch that makes you feel uncomfortable. These offenders count on the fact that you won't tell anyone. The fact that nothing was done to this man should give you an idea of whether or not you are in "the truth." Jehovah God does NOT want His children to be victimized. If your father was disfellowshipped, then some day when you are older, you will be expected to shun him. That is something you should take into consideration. I can't tell you what to do. You seem to be a wise young lady. But I can give you my opinion. I would do exactly what the July 1, 2013 WT publication tells you to do, and examine your religion. Look what all you can find online about it. Even though they say things you read from apostates are lies, I can tell you most is truthful. There is a lot about the religion they don't want you to know. DO some homework and what they tell you to do only apply it to them. EXAMINE them!! My thoughts and prayers will be with you!!

god not again

he said opiate of the masses, what he meant was that when the pain of life got too much you turn to religion as a crutch to get you through

opiates were at the time and still are pain relievers , he didn't mean they suppress the working class , he meant that they gave solace tot the working classes

politics is the opium of the masses where leaders like Marx lie the way they wanted

My opinion is that Karl Marx hadn't met god at that time in his life. Religion sucks, christianity is a faith, and rather than having my senses dulled by meeting with Jesus, I now see more clearly than I did before. Karl Marx was wrong. In my opinion.

Wholeheartedly agree. Let them have their religion, keeps them quiet. Unfortunately the opium of the masses is now TV; at least when it was religion they'd organise themselves into cliques and stay away from the rest of us...

At the Great White Throne Judgment God will kick Karl Marx off the cliff into the lake of fire. God will not waste any time with him----he will be fourth in line following the false prophet, the Antichrist and Satan.
