When I was arrested for assault in the States I was brought to court handcuffed and in leg irons. In most other wetsern countries they don't use leg irons so just wondering why they do in the States. Being in jail gear and handcuffed is humiliating enough but leg irons just seemed like something you'd see a 100 years ago.

I hear what you are saying and yes I had to wear a belly chain as well - just thin it's all a bit much. You're meant to be going to court to get bail and yet you go chained up and looking like a wild animal.

Billydavis - How do you think being in leg shackles 'reforms' anybody?

Hi Shane M:
If you haven't noticed, leg chains are used all over North America and they are used for the simplest of reasons.
The leg chains stop you from running or using your feet as a weapon. You will also notice that there is a chain that goes from the leg chains to the waist which then is connected to the handcuffs.. This make it impossible for the prisoner to attempt anything while in these shackles. you have to remember who is the bad guy and who is the good guy in this situation!
It doesn't matter if it looks like something you see 200 or 300 years ago, they are put on for the protection of others. You were a prisoner not in a fashion show! It's all part of the problem you had and you had to deal with what was involved with it when you went to court.
I hope this helps

Yes, they used leg irons a long time ago too. It is not for humiliation though. They are very effective in limiting the possibility of an escape. In addition to slowing the person down, it also has the very useful effect of making most people discount the idea of even trying to escape.

I hope you are at peace and enjoy utmost citizenship now and in the future. Sincerely!

they have no materials or evidence yet to childishly cry "The companions Practiced It!!!" yet basically quote the context while it replaced into criminal and decrease than the circumstances it replaced into criminal. yet they have not got an identical context or circumstances because of the fact the companions did lower back then. And it replaced into of course forbidden from Muhammad Sallalahu alayhi wasalaam and the companions in a while... the only reason it replaced into shown interior the 1st place replaced into because of the fact battling replaced into difficult, and the consent replaced into mutual.. however the way shiia prepare this is organic prostitution. they do no longer inspect what theyre doing on the instant. In Iraq, there are shiia rafidha who shake their female's palms and say "interior the call of Ali" and validate the marriage. They even get married for 4 hours at circumstances. There are even Shiia women people who tell memories that the adult men had to get married until now their spouse have been given domicile. those all and sundry is sicccckkkk. Everytime I see their women people, i can't help yet to think of she isn't sparkling..

Take the hint, if it wasn't for your stupid prideful bad-*** attitude you wouldn't be in leg shackels. Everyone can use a little humility in their lives. You should think of the behavior that got you to that point as what is humiliating, not the actions society has to take to attempt to reform you.

It keeps down the need for them to chase you down when you run. In court, its the must likely spot for someone to try and escape so, they leg shackle you. The fact that you were arrested means you now have to play by their rules.

The best way to not have to deal with it is don't do anything to get busted for and go to jail. Keep your nose clean, work, pay your bills and drive on. That simple.

If you were wearing the baggy ghetto cargo pants such as the lower classes wear then they would not have put leg irons on you. Those pants make it easy for the cops to catch the scum when they try to flee the scene of wherever they commit their crimes.

Its either old policy that was never changed or its insurance you don't take off at a sprint. Regardless of assuring the police, marshals or whomever you have no intention of running they chain you anyway.
I agree though. There are some instances where they seem more for show.

It's for security. Many places require it when a prisoner is being brought into a court room full of citizens.

it is a safety issue. any time transportation of inmates/defendants is outside of a jail or prison, the officers have to consider the safety of the general public as well as their own personal safety. not only is it legal to use leg restraints, they are required to do so. if the inmate is a high securtiy risk then leg restraints will be used transporting anywhere within the jail/facility as well.
