My cats did it to for a while. I guess they like the sound of the paper ripping. I would keep magazines in a different place. Get it some more toys to play with. And the first answer was good too, another focus point for the cat. Get a little box and put some toys in it and maybe attach some ribbons too. They like that. Mine like to come by the desk when I'm at it too. I have a bottle of treats in my drawer and when they come, I toss the treats and they go after it. Helps. Give it a try. Also if there is some stress/tension in your home, she may be sensing that as well, and diversion is needed.

Every Cat has his/her own weird thing. I had a cat that if you put the newpaper on the floor it would hold it with one paw and then use his teeth to shred it. It was great when you wanted something shredded but when you didn't watch out! ( i must confess I taught the cat to shred it encouraging him it was too funny)

Only when they want to play, or feel like its too cold.
Offer some newspaper instead, some pages laid out others crumpled. Cats love to lay on the paper because it feels warm and they hide between the newspaper balls

Cats seem to have a fasination with paper. Our cat will always sit on paper. When my kids are coloring on the floor, the cat comes and sits on their book. My cat was eating the paper that came from the inside of my new shoes. I can't figure it out either.lol

he might feel uncomfortable with some change around, my cat used to do this when we put her into her box for travelling. but now shes used to it. maybe u changed something in your home, and the cat isnt used to it yet. and cats want to mark their territory, by peeing, and cats are kinda clean so they bury all their business. anyways shes trying to find somewhere to cleanly mark her territory, and when she doenst get success she leaves the place alone for a while until she realises theres no threat. hehe just make sure you leave no place for her to mark her territory! good luck!
PS> maybe she just likes the paper, because my cat sometimes does that too. Or shes bored and wants to play with something. I mean, my cat always walks around, and when she sees paper, she sits down on it. weird, but cats think that were weird too, with all the things we do, so wateva :p anyways its nothing serious and if you buy her toys shell get over it =)

I don't know if it's normal but what's normal to a cat??
My kitty gets into everything... She sees a paper & just has to rub up against it. Go figure...
She also loves the glue on envelopes (yuck)

Maybe he has a deficiency. Be careful though, he may be preparing a place to go to the bathroom!
