Sometimes dogs get fat pockets located on their backs. Sometimes they rupture. My dog many years ago had these on her back and the doctor removed them and for safety did a biopsy. They were what he suspected, fatty deposits and they never returned. I don't think that I'd have them removed again as they were open wounds that couldn't be sutured.

If he's sure it's just a cyst, then I would say there's nothing to worry about. If it does rupture, just clean it up with some warm water and a bit of hydrogen peroxide.

My grandma raise German Shepards and they get cysts all the time. But I have never heard about one getting on a dog as young as 3. I would go with the vet and get it taken care of pronto. Don't sit around either. If it got that deep in that short if time, it could probably paralize your dog since it is on the spine. So do it now!!!!!

I had a similar problem with my cat (long haired) and took her to the vets this week, turned out that she had fleas and this caused the cyst to develop, the vet squeezed it like a zit and prescribed her some strong flea tablets costing me £40!

You could always visit another vet for a 2nd opinion

i have a male german shepherd who had a cyst on his shoulder the vet said to leave it unless it got to big or he started nibbling it.he never bothered so we left it and after a year or so i noticed it had shrank and eventually it went.he is 10 now he gets lumps then they go.he did have one on his tail once and needed vet treatment they gave him Fuciderm gel and it went.i would leave it if it isnt a problem to him but keep an eye on it he starts chewing it take him to vet.

sounds like a cyst, as people in my family have had them and had them succesfully removed by the docter , easy and doesnt hurt much. But sounds like your dog will need surgery........see what the vet says first.

My Uncles cat actually has cyst right now. It's on his back and it is way bigger underneath the skin. He had to has to have it drained every so often because the cat is to old to go for surgery.
So I would suggest because your dog is young to go for the surgery.

Hope you dog gets well. I wish the best for you two.
