My dog is 3 yrs. He was neutered at 6 months. He has never lifted his leg. And I'm glad for that...I personally can't stand it when they lift their leg on everything.

The age a male starts lifting his leg to urinate has many variables. If the male is neutered at a young age and is not of a dominant inclination, he may never lift his leg. If he isn't neutered, the general age to begin lifting the leg is somewhere between 6 months and a year. Some less dominant, unneutered males, though, don't lift their leg until they are several years old. It also depends on other dogs in the home/area. Leg lifting can be a learned behavior. If there is an older male the youngster looks up to who lifts his leg, a pup as young as 3 months may start lifting his leg.

If your boy ISN'T lifting his leg, this is nothing to worry about. In fact, lifting legs is usually a sign the dog is feeling dominant and can, in the long run, be a not so good thing.

my dog didn't do it untill he was nearly 10 months old. I was getting concerned he kept peeing like a girl, but I have been told that this was a normal age (and in rare cases a male dog will never **** his leg) and most dogs it happen between 6 months to a year.

I'm not sure but my dog is 2 years old now, and he still has'nt started to do that yet. I wouldnt see no problem with it even my vet has said that as long as they can go to the toilet that about all that matters.

But good luck x

Some never do. Usually after puberty. Hiking is more of a show of dominance. I have a large female that if she can't squat and pee over someone elses pee she will hike on it. She lets the boys know she is the one in charge.

Often you can tell how old a dog is by looking at its teeth and overall health. The legs and/or genitalia won't tell you anything about its age.
