Very nice place close to Taos and Mesa Verde and the Grand canyon all are just a 3 to 4 hours away or less. Take a rustic train ride on the Chama Railraod or the Durango to Silver Cliff railroad. I live in Colorado and enjoy these aspects of it and New Mexico. I encourage you to google these places and see.

There are a number of really wonderful spa/hotels in and around San Diego. San Diego has a LOT to do in the winter, and Mexico is just a trolley ride away.
Here are a few spa hotels:
1. La Costa (The Queen of SD spa resorts, and worth it.)
http://www.lacosta.com/
2. Paradise Point (on the water, Mission Bay, LOTS to do)

3. L'Auberge Spa and Resort (in Del Mar, beautiful ocean views)
