I have a 23 month old baby girl. she has a normal diet and is active too but she is underweight that is she is only 9.6 Kg and her height is 81 cm this is being going on for last 4 months. Doctors says to give her good diet but she is already on a good diet. Besides this she thumb sucks a lot? Whats the reason of her so low weight. Is the reason that most of the times she has to play alone because of no other kids in the house.
I give her egg daily in breakfast and Pedia sure too. Please give a good reply.

My son is that age and he is also underweight. Your daughter may have a high metabolism for her age. There really is no need to worry, as long as your doctor doesn't seem concerned, or if she starts loosing a lot of weight quickly. As long as you give her a balanced diet and she gets a moderate amount of exercise, she will be fine. Not all babies are round and chubby, but this doesn't necessarily mean they are unhealthy. At this age, she is probably running around more than ever, which may be one of the reasons she's slacking off that baby fat. Hope this helped!

my little girl did the same....was your child premature.
If so then she is doing what my little girl did and still does.
When she was around 18 to 23 months she stopped putting weight on for around six months...doctors told us to feed her and we were she was eating like a horse but still she gained no weight. As long as she is active running around curious and so forth then there is nothing to worry about....
It's just doctors have all these silly little guidelines that children have to follow but what they forget is that every child is different and doesn't necessarily grow the same way....
My little girl after the six months threw the weight on and now she is perfectly healthy.
If your worried that's fine its natural as a parent but don't lose sleep over it....as long as your girl is running laughing causing mischief shes fine and as my old mum says she must be getting her energy from somewhere...
To if your an active person your girl could process foods far more efficiently again the result of this is no weight gain until she calms down.
if you really want her to put weight on try incorporating some fatty foods into her diet like chocolate milkshakes and so on......
Well i hope this has helped you in some way......

it could be possibly that she just has a high metabolisim . some kids just dont gain weight like others do they gain in height instead , i have a daughter that is 12 and eats a healthy diet also only weighs about 70 lbs the doctors think she should weigh atleast 80 or 90 but she just dont gain weight she is almost never sick and has always been under weight , as far as the thumb sucking goes that is tough that is somthing that some kids just out grow and some kids never do i have a aunt that is in her 60s and still sucks her thumb but that is very very rare, I would say dont worry too much about your childs weight as long as you know she is getting the vitamins and menerals she needs and is healthy her weight may pick up in time or she may just have the metabolisim that just burns food quick and she dont gain that fast as long as shes healthy and not getting deathly sick because of it she is fine

As long as she's already getting healthy food and she is physically healthy, I wouldn't worry too much. Some children are just small. My son is the opposite, he's big for his age. He eats healthy food and doesn't eat any more often than other children his age. Being tall and stocky (I don't mean fat either) runs in my family and my husband's family.. Offer her healthy snacks throughout the day and keep giving her a variety of healthy foods. You're doing everything you need to be doing :)

Some kids are just that small. We have four little boys, and our oldest weighs as much as our second youngest and theres 2 1/2 years between them. Hes 7 and he only weighs 38 pounds. Theres nothing wrong with that as long as they are eating healthy i wouldnt worry about it!!!! Be happy shes not over weight right!?!?! We have to buy our 7 year old slims. Its just the way he is. And he eats breakfast, lunch, after school snack AND supper. Very healthy meals and always drinks milk. Some kids are just like that! GOODLUCK!!!

I went through that with my Son. He only weighed 5lbs9oz at birth. He ate well and was active and happy, but always small. He never fit the charts they had. I knew he was healthy! You can't make every kid fit those damn charts!! He's a happy healthy 28 yr old teacher now! You know if your kid is healthy or not. Doctors aren't Gods, take what you really need from them and let the rest go. You have your Motherly instincts to guide you. Damn Doctors will make you nuts if you let them!

She could have something wrong with her thyroid. There are two things that could go wrong with the thyroid. One being that she has an over active thyroid "Hyperthyroidism" which is where she produces too much thyroid and is really active and would cause her to not gain weight, or there is "Hypothyroidism" which isn't her, but that is where you gain weight and you can't loose it. It is where it doesn't produce hardly any thyroid and you gain weight so easily, which is my case. I would go and have her checked for Hyperthyroidism and than there is something called P? dwarfism, where they will be small all of there lives. I just remembered it's called primordial dwarfism.

it sounds like you are doing everything you should be doing... just because she is a little under the normal weight for her age it doesn't mean she is unhealthy, she might just be meant to be little. Maybe she just has a high motabolism. As long as she eats a normal amount and healthy foods with alot of vitamins and protien she should be perfectly healthy, I wouldn't worry too much about it. Are you giving her whole milk? if not, that should help.

As long as she eats healthy and isn't sick then don't worry. My daughter towered over other kids at age 2 but at 33 she's only 5'5". Her daughters were smaller than other kids until after they started school but now at ages 8 and 10 they are right there with those of their age group. Kids grow at different rates and unless she's way below normal at school age then you don't need to worry.
