My son Kyle has been watching the Crodile Hunter for 6 years and is very sad, still, by his passing. I try to console him but he still thinks of Steve as invincible, that nothing can hurt him thats its all a big mistake. Hes only 8 and Im wondering if ya'll have any ideas. How is everybody down there doing with it?

If this is a REAL question.....tell him that Steve's daughter is coming out with her own show soon.

Death and grieving is necessary for any release of pain, let him accept it and then heal it is lot better living in denial of a loss that so tangible to us, moreover after that he would be able to realize that loss is always of the body and never of the spirit.

The proof? Crocodile Hunters daughter is already planning shoot some new stuff with wild animals to carry on the legacy of her father, and shooting new programs following the spirit of her father that would great inspiration for all the kids who saw him as a hero as he humanized the so called 'wild' animals. The show must go on....

Death has the strangest of way of becoming life lessons for us and our loved ones. do not deny your son the gift might be hidden in this experience. Now that he is experiencing grieving over loss, allow him to learn the simple transition of life, though bit early on life, but we choose cannot our timing can we? I hope this experience turns in to an important life lesson regarding the human vulnerability and trust that their is time and reason for everyone to depart.

I pray that this only makes into a more wise, brave and empowered individual as he grows up.

Just make sure he doesn't connect Steve’s death to you and become insecure about you, may be that is why is don’t want to believe that he is still alive and invincible.

You wud need to reassure him that you guys will always be there for him, just as the crocodile Hunter, Steve still is for his family and fans alike - in spirit and memories.

When your son comes to know about Steve's daughters bravery and resilience I am sure he too would get inspired and realize the invincibility of human spirit that lasts beyond the mortal shell. Just as she might find strength in his enduring spirit and resilence so would your son.

All the best and yes try going through www.crocodilehunter.com, along with your son, as Steve is still there on the virtual plane for all of us to admire, cherish and honour.

Its sad
and whats worse kids will always need and have heros to look up to. Its a shame when they realize that they are not invincable.
Its all part of growing up
Its even worse when they are a bit extreme as in being a "crocodile hunter"
Then again Mickey Mantle was an alcoholic so some of the best are not what they seem

Its sad that ur son was so deeply admired Croco hunter. You need to be patience with him, i believe.Stay with him when he is watching TV and ensure taht u block the channels showing hunter/hunters death . This way u can tell him that the channel has terminated its working and hence croco hunter would also not be visible. Try to get him fascinated to some cartoon channel. get him a nice collection of cartoon videos and comics to keep him distracted for a few months. Children foget things easily. Hence after a few weeks, he shoudl be able to forget this tragedy.

Your child is grieving. Not only has he lost a hero but he probably realized for the first time that you aren't invincible either and is worrying about what would happen if you or his father died.

The link below is a national organization that deals with childhood grief; contact them (do it by e-mail as it appears they're in Australia) and ask for suggestions as to how to talk to your child about his fears and sadness. The second link lists additional resources.

Good luck.

Is this the first time your son has had to deal with a death? If so, you should explain the process to him and let him know it is okay to be sad, but that he has to move on with life because we can't stop being happy forever because someone died. Let him know about Bindi's show that is coming out soon. That should help because they are about the same age and he will be able to see how well she is dealing with her dad's death. Good luck. (If he doesn't feel better soon I would suggest counseling.)

Wow, tough question. This is his first experience with a death of someone he cares about I assume. Be honest with him as I think you are. You love him so that alone will make him feel better. Time should make it better. I know it is hard to see your child upset and being powerless to help. It is one of the worst feelings a parent can have.

Try and tell him he is in a better place.
Do things to keep his mind off of him.
Say things like " The Crodile Hunter wouldnt want you to be sad"

is this his first experience with death? if so, you need to explain to him (and probably already have) that everyone dies, but that he died doing what he loves so he's happy in death and he died so that millions would understand animals better, and just knowing that your son loves his show, he did was he was trying to do, so your son should continue to learn about animals so he will always remember steve.

MAYBE NOW IS AN OPPORTUNITY FOR YOU TO USE THAT TO EXPLAIN THAT EVERYBODY DIES SOONER OR LATER ...JUST TELL HIM WHAT I TOLD MY KIDS AT THE PASSING OF THEIR GRANDMOTHER...GOD NEEDED ANOTHER ANGEL AND SHE WAS THE BEST PICK...MAYBE THROW IN THAT MAYBE GOD NEEDED A GOOD CROCODILE HUNTER FOR ALL THE CROCODILES THAT WENT TO HEAVEN.
