She was not the "first". The very first female president was Suhbaataryn Yanjmaa. She was elected president of Mongolia in 1953. Then there was Indira Gandhi from India during 1970's. There have been many. For a complete list of female heads of state please refer to the following link page :

A word about Bangladesh's female president, in fact it was by virtue of her being the wife of an army General, who as well ruled the country till his death. Army ruled that country for many years and still enjoys much influence in the politics of the country.
Females, whenever or wherever they strive in politics with true ambitions have succeeded. So, I personally believe it is not about the religion only. In U.S. too, I believe, when the female population is moved and would find it necessary to bring about the change there will be no stopping !!

The daughter of the assassinated chief Gandhi replaced into inevitable, that replaced into her end besides. It basically became the Muslim u . s . after the revolution (civil war), while Gandhi freed them from great Britain, India is a Hindu way of life for the main area from their beginning of their empire, yet fell to England and now it relatively is totally varied in cultural sects among Hindu, Buddhist, Muslim, and have self belief it or no longer many Christians stay among them. The political realm has been particularly inventive in medicine because of the fact the rustic is ridden with ailment and girls all and sundry is very sturdy at nursing and doctoring yet politically they do no longer look to be universal among the stern clans of the orthodox religious leaders. This brings with regard to the turmoil while it is composed of ladies people everywhere.

See d socio-political as well as economic conditions in both d countries r very different....the two female PMs ..Khalida Zia and Sheikh Hasina...had strong political background and the then political conditions helped them...moreover...Male domination is not related to ne religion rather it's evrywhr..thr r Muslim people who believe in d equality of both d genders and thr r Christians/ Westners who really cant digest equality..so one should not think always think wid religion in mind..though it's been a gr8 factor in determining someone's social status in d society..

note - the president's duties are normally ceremonial, but with the 13th amendment to the constitution ("Caretaker Government Amendment"), the president's role becomes significant at times when Parliament is dissolved and a caretaker government is installed - at presidential direction - to supervise the elections

Because in the US we're too smart for that. Besides, the United States was founded on Christianity, which puts the man as head and woman as his "helper". Since muslims seem to think of woman as dirt, I don't know where their reasoning for that act came from.
