Maybe bad solenoid or bad ground.
Check the other end of the ground and hot wire.

Can you give a little more information? Will the engine turn over or does it just click? Have you checked the connections on the starter solenoid? (the little thing on the fenderwell beside the engine, has two big wires, one comes from the battery, and several little wires on it)

It could be your altenattor. Or your starter. the same thing happened to me with my 1981 Malibu. It turns out that the battery cable was loose.

You say it will start sometimes and then not so it must be getting electrical power, right? Tried changing the fuel filter or filters as the case may be ( there may be more than one)?
