I think they are TERRIFIC !! I have two (second one bought for wider slicing table for slicing onions), and use them 3-4 times a week. Easier to use and clean than a food-processor... and perfect for slicing veggies for stews, taters for Au Gratin, and cabbage for slaw.
For the person who asked WHAT they are... http://www.kitchen-classics.com/mandolin.htm they're a device that allows the user to slide a veggie (like a tater) across a VERY sharp blade and produce THIN slices 1/8th to 3/8th inches... VERY quickly.
I own a Benriner and an OXO... the OXO is better I think.

They are excellent. The JML V slicer is good, but if you value your finger tips, use the safety glider and chuck that last little bit of potato/carrot/onion in the compost xxx

I highly recommend them but these are the features you want to llok for:
1. upright standing vs flat or barely off the counter
2. interchangeable blades for julienne, grating and different thickness cuts
3. stainless steel or thick plastic construction
Most models have a safety food grasper
but some are thin plastic that bends when you apply downward force while slicing that is worthless.
Here is a decent price and minimum features you should have.

Oxo also makes a decent one

If you have a good food processor with the slicing attachments it's a better and faster means to slicing veggies.

I just use a sharp knife but Mandolins are good-if you buy a decent one. Remember you only get what you pay for so go for as much as you can afford. And as the others say, mind your fingers!

i do no longer think of you supplies you him credit for Cena according to se, however the rest I do accept as true with. i'd additionally throw Mankind on the checklist. whilst it is composed of The Rock and Stone chilly, i think of Vince capitalized greater on them than he unquestionably did create their gimmicks. Stone chilly became doing the anti-company subject in ECW and the Rock became truly in basic terms Dwayne Johnson finally snapping on the team once you have detrimental face reaction. i'd additionally positioned the character of Mr. McMahon on the checklist. i know it sounds unusual, yet Vince's remarkable introduction is in all probability his on-air character.
