I have to run weekly for a class I am taking, but when I push myself and run hard, my chest starts to hurt and it gets hard to breathe. I don't know if it's my lungs or if I'm not breathing right. Does anyone know how to help prevent the burn or stop it from hurting?

You need to train yourself to breath in through your nostrils, exhale through your mouth. If the pain persists, draw in your stomach muscles and hold them, the pain will begin to subside. Slow down if necessary. This takes a lot of concentration. More importantly, make sure you are healthy enough to run, ie Dr's permission. You may want to start out walking, then competition waking, then move up running. After all you had to crawl before you could walk.

You may have bronchial athsma and should see a physician prior to engaging in any type of physical activity of this magnitude. Additionally, as a woman I know that you also need a good sport bra if you are generously endowed. Running with larger breasts can also cause a great deal of discomfort during and after the run.

Level out your breathing, best to breath through your nose, not your mouth, and if you get the pain, put your hands over your head to let the air get to your lungs and it helps relieve the pain.

well you might have Asama so you should go to a doctor and get it checked out and possibly you will get a sports inhaler so when you are running you take it and if that is not the case then maybe you should just stop running

as long as you brethe right it should be okay. brethe in and out your mouth, dont brethe in your nose and out your mouth because that can cause you nose to burn BAD. brethe in and out your mouth at a steady pace. also take long deep breathes rather than a lot of little ones. hope it helps =) good luck
