Are you feeding a kibble without soy, as well?
a supplement of liquid chlorophyll. Liquid chlorophyll neutralizes body odors, aids in digestion, and is good for your dog’s heart. It naturally neutralizes stink from breath, odors that originate from the body or skin, and decreases the smell of dog poop. Chlorophyll is a naturally occurring substance that has been used in deodorants for people with allergies for years.
You may be able to find liquid chlorophyll at a local health food store, but generally the savings online are enough to cover shipping costs.

It is also in several premium brands of dog food, sometimes alfalfa is on the label for that reason..It is in Canidae.
We used to have a pug with that problem, and gave dry baths using Colgate men's shaving foam..just rub it to the skin, and wipe it dry..I didn't know about the chlorophyll at that time.

Hi Jason,
My suggestion is to feed an all Natural Diet, such as Natural Balance or now even Pro Plan is making one called ProPlan Selects. If you stay away from corn, soy, beef and by products which are in a lot of cheaper brands you can get a much healthy dog as well as the coat will be shinning and less shedding problems. Another thing if this alone doesn't help with the shedding you can add a fish oil to the diet for extra omega vitamins needed in the diet. I can tell you more about the fish oil and the best one to buy that works if you are interested give me a message at shadowlandsls@yahoo.com. This will not take care of your problem overnight, but you should notice some major improvements within 3 to 4 weeks of using a better dog food. Hope this helps.
Sonja

Make sure that her ears are clean and not infected., her anal glands are not full, and her teeth are okay and clean. Also have her checked for skin problems or allergies. Check her lip folds for sores.
Bassets often do tend to have an odor, it's one of those things that goes with the breed. Some people have good results by using a vinegar rinse or a listerine rinse after the bath.
As for the shedding, well, bassets shed. A lot. Twice a year they shed more. The best way to reduce the shedding is to brush her often, using a soft slicker, hound glove, Zoom Groom, and/or shedding blade. An occasional warm bath will help to loosen the dead hairs and make them easier to brush out.

Basset's always tend to have an odor to them, a lot of times its their ears. They get yeast infections in their ears, make sure you clean out her ears at least once a week, get a good solution like Malecetic Otic fill her entire ear canal with the solution then massage, then wipe all debris out with a cotton ball. Try baby powder also you can put that on her a couple times a week along with giving her a bath weekly. Her shedding, get a shedding blade they are metal and have little teeth on them, they pull out all of the dogs undercoat, make sure you do this outside, you can brush for hours and still get more hair. They work extremely well, just brush her weekly with it right before and after her bath. Good Luck!!

She might have an ear infection. This will make the dog smell REALLY bad. Also, you may want to check her anal glands. If they are full, she could be leaking anal gland fluid which smells bad too! Have a vet check her for a skin infection. That is about all the help I can give! Good Luck!!

because all the smells intertwine when they cook and smell good. it's not hard to make food smell good. it's harder to make food taste good. my neighbors are full chinese i believe doubt they came from America but their house is a total pig sty. theirs crap they bring home from work all over their front yard and back yard and it's all broken things like tables, fridge, washing machines,etc.. but from time to time when they are cooking it smells really good. but i highly doubt it tastes that good. why? just walk infront of their door step and you will understand why theirs craps everywhere including dead plants/animals decaying like fish. Im sure they don't shop at a real grocery store either but the local china town and everyone in my state knows the china town isn;t very good for groceries as it's been known to carry rats and it isn't even that tasty. that being said don't let the smells fool you.

check to see if the smell is coming from her ears. dogs with floppy ears can get stinky. they need them cleaned more oftin. if that doesnt help, talk to the vet to make sure it isnt anything serious (skin condition or anything like that)

Basset hounds are scent hounds, they will always have a musky odor. You should try adding vinegar to her water.
