I don't think it's super common, but it DOES happen. I work with a woman who was a full-fledged nun for a while. She eventually left -- said she was always getting in trouble for not being meek enough. I think some people WANT to be a nun or a priest but wind up not being able to make it work.

More than 100,000 men worldwide have left the priesthood since the 1960s. In America, the number of priests has fallen to 48,097, a 17.3 percent decline since 1965, according to the Center for Applied Research in the Apostolate, a Catholic research center at Georgetown University. More than 2,161 parishes in the United States, about 11 percent, now get by without a resident priest. And by the year 2000, according to estimates from Catholic reform groups, there will be more married former priests than active priests.

When I was a kid, I knew a boy in my neighborhood who's mother used to be a nun and his father used to be a priest. They both left the church perminantly and married.

Not very. I read a study once that about 80% of priests, and 70% of nuns have had homosexual relationships. That is much higher obviously than the general population.

It is rare. But it does happen.
Through out history we have had "pairs." Saint Benedict and Saint Scholastica. Saint Francis and Saint Clare. Saint John of the Cross and Saint Teresa of Avila.
Every now and then someone gives in to their base drives. We all want to be loved. For some, physical love is more important.
It does happen. It doesn't mean these folks are sinning. They are given dispensation to break their vows. Most of them remain loyal to and active in the church.

i think many of them leave in the initial stages of becoming a nun or priest
they may realise it isn't for them
but i think once they have committed them self and know that is the life they wish to lead ... their commitment is strong and will spend their life doing what they love doing xx

I don't know that many but my friends sister left to get married. My father in law. So I guess it happens enough.

There may be few cases. It is better to get married than to stay as unmarried in the religious place.
