Yes, Santa is what made Christmas so magical for me as a child. Yes, I was upset when I fount out the truth (still can't bring myself to say what the truth is) I got over it. It didn't like, ruin my self esteem or give me a nervous breakdown or anything. I think children believing is a wonderful thing, gives them something to look forward to.

Of course we tell the kids about Father Christmas, it's all part of what helps to make the Christmas season magical. As they get older, our kids have taken to the idea of being like the real Saint Nicholas and doing things for others and thinking of the less fortunate. Those who are of a religious bent may prefer to stress the fact that Christmas is to celebrate Christ's birthday, but I don't see any harm in letting the kids believe in Father Christmas, and I definitely would never be the one to tell them that it's a fairy tale. I'd incorporate the lovely article from the Sun on the subject beginning "Yes Virginia there is a Santa Claus", that explains that Father Christmas is the _spirit_ of Christmas and giving, and of wonder.

to me there is no question my children know about santa and ya know what i would not change it for the world. Every year my children pick a under privleged family and buy 1 gift each for the children. Now mind you we r not well of by any means but to my kids they are being like santa, Helping kids who would not other wise have a christmas. To me that right there is the spirit of Santa Claus. Now after hearing that you tell me there is no such thing!!!!even though he may not be a humen being he is as real as you and me, And he lives in atleast two very special little girls hearts...

My son is almost four months, but my fiance and I have already talked about this. We decided we would begin the whole Christmas thing telling him about Jese first and then telling him about St. Nick and what he did for all the kids, but I wont tell him that his presents are coming from some guy down the chimney.

Anyway, my family is Cuban and we always had noche buena (the night before christmas) and we would sing happy birthday to Jesus at 1201 christmas morning and had a cake and everything. When i was younger, I thought that was ridiculous, but now, i love it and i cant wait to do that with my son.

I agree with lynnca. I hated the fact that my kids lied to me and I think that was my first reason when my fiance and I were talking about it, and I said i didnt want to base christmas on a lie. But telling him about St. Nick isnt a lie and that way he would know where the whole Santa Claus thing comes from.

Santa brings a fun thing to Christmas time. I loved it when i was a kid...

When i was about 3 i found a toy kitchen in my parents closet that was for me. I screamed and told my mom there was a present in the closet. She told me in a panic that Santa brought the toy to early and that Santa says we have to leave the kitchen in the closet until X-mas day. I believed her with out any question. I don't feel bad about this now.....actually its kinda funny.

If you are an adult and you still feel bad about your parents telling you there is a Santa Claus you need therapy

I didn't want to do the whole Santa thing because when I was told the truth I saw it as my parents lying to me. I had always been told that lying was wrong and I was really angry that my parents had done it to me for 8 years. We are doing Santa because my husband feels very strongly about it but I told him that I was not going to be the one to tell our children the truth.

Even though i am Christian, i don't tell my children there is a Santa Claus. My mom never told me and her mom never told her so we just ignored that myth!
