If it only takes one little sperm to fertilise one little egg to create a baby.....why do men produce millions of them...when all but one are destined to die a horrible death

...is it really such a "horrible death".... considering the alternative...

Many a "sperm" has died by the "hand of man"... (pun intended)..

at least, these little "soon to be dead" guys... "were aimed towards heaven"...

It's all to do with evolution, God's marvellous plan (whichever god you want), and astronomic probabilites.
Raletively speaking, both sperm and egg are incredibly small when compared to the vast open spaces inside the womb.
- It's a bit like winning the lottery, unless you give yourself millions of chances, the odss of hitting the jackppot are pretty low.
So over time, the males those produced the most sperm stood the best chance of sending their genes onwards.

for that exact reason! can you imagine if only one sperm was produced each time? Considering the size of it (microscopic!!!) The swim all the way up to the egg would be to you and me like walking to france or something....its a helluva long way!! So theres millions of them to ensure that at least one (some of the time) will make it! Two healthy fertile people still only have a 25% of conception!!

u're gonna b there a while saying a piece 4 each & every1!
every sperm is sacred & all that.
every sperm has a few 100 brothers that die needlessly.

now that's shame.
sob sob.

oh well
mayb they'll b lucky & escape with the aid of some counterfeit durex doing the rounds!

Only god knows maybe the more sperm increases the chance of fertilisation

Face it, if you had to swim up a dark passage with the current against you to achieve a noble goal, your chance of success is minimal. But if you were part of a team, you could be more confident of the goal being achieved since the odds of at least one of your scoring are significantly higher. Be the same in any sport - play one against many and you lose; but with a team and good teamwork, the odds are in your favour.

The reason there are so many is because all those soldiers have ther own features(everyone has a diffrent feature of you or the mother) and the one just wants to get out.The others were to weak to break into the egg.

Because the sperm duct doesn't release asingle sperm but it lets out amillion of them and on their way to the ovul and the utherus, there's amall way into the egg space. ok

because alot of them get lost on the way. It's like an easter egg hunt, with only one egg. The more kids you send on the hunt, the more likely one of them is to find it before dinner time.

I think only the strongest one survives the long hike. The others are there to cheer on the one special one destined to make it
