In America, believers, and it's not even close. Over 80% of the country are Christian and only 15% are atheist, agnostic or nonreligious. Given that Christianity and Islam combine for roughly three billion followers in total, believers probably outnumber non-believers worldwide, too.

The answer to your question depends entirely on location.

A study that was done in, I believe 2002, compared church attendance between Canada and the U.S. In 1945, Sunday attendance at church was identical between the countries at 45%. The year the study took place, Canada had dropped to 20% while the U.S. was exactly the same at 45%. The conclusion published, stated that Canadians were better educated than Americans.

Of course, making a statement like that is incendiary at best. But it is interesting that while American church attendance has not changed since 1945, Canadian attendance has. Which begs the question,

If this study was done for every country around the globe, what would the numbers be?

If people really had this God they loved more than themselves that they sought to please, who was hurt by their sins - why are they so heartless as to sin and sin and sin? I can't even do things to hurt my mortal loved ones, if people actually believe in God, how can they hurt their truest love without batting an eye just because they know He'll forgive them?

I think when push comes to shove more people are non-believers than believers. In years of seeing other people deal with grief it comes out in bits and pieces that believers aren't so sure about God, they aren't so sure their loved one is in Heaven. In fact, I have yet to see a believer express one less smidgeon of pain at their loss than an atheist does. They excuse this by saying everyone hurts the same because they are human. To me it seems you'd get SOME comfort if you actually believed the cold dead lips of your Child would smile again and her arms would embrace you in an eternity of life in Heaven rather than to think all that was her in the universe is gone but the rotting meat that held her thoughts and personality. But if they truly believe, why do they not feel comforted? Why do they not sigh in relief that their Child is safe rather than howl with loss?

Also, people like the child molester priests - they must be even more sure about the non-existence of God than I am.

I think there are more non-believers, despite statistics that say there are more Christians in the USA. Many people that claim to be Christian in this country are not true believers. As far as around the world Christians are in the minority.

There are reportst that 90 to 95 percent of Americans believe in God, whether it's the God of the Bible or any other God. The Bible says that God put eternity into our hearts, which is why we believe in God. It is a God-given instinct.

I hope I say this correctly, I believe there are more people who say they are believers, but are not, i.e.-fake Christians. Just because you walk into a church doesn't make you a Christian. True Christians are outnumbered by the fakes by about 1000 to 1. As a generalization, there are more "believers" of religions than unbelievers, buddhist, hindu, islam, catholic, christian, taoist, etc.

This one's easy to answer. There's more non-believers b/c there's billions of buddists, muslims, jews, pagans, & other organized religions around the world who couldn't care less about Christianity. Nothing against Jesus lovers, mind you.... just answering the question.

Officially there are more believers, by a wide margin. At least that's what the polls say.

However people are such eager conformists that the loudness of believers may convince people to pretend just to get along. The number of nonbelievers in polls seems a bit low to me.

I suspect there are many more closet skeptics than is generally thought. Not a majority mind you, but not as sparse as polls suggest. May just be wishfull thinking on my part though.

BELIEVERS IN WHAT?
Christianity: more Non believers
Reasons: people may be so-called Christians who really don't believe at all. People may be atheists or other religions. People may be Christiuan and not really sure if they believe, so I think ther are way more nonbelievers even if they won't admit it.
