It's a very thin piece on th back and sides of my kitchen sink area. I am told it will not be easy, But I'm getting a new countertop and want to paint there.

Why not just sand the Formica (to reduce the shine, improve adhesion) and just paint directly on IT? It's easier, faster, less messy and you risk finding a horrible plywood surface, beneath it.

well i suppose they used contact glue wich is some bad stuff. the only thing that will disable the glue is laqeur thinner. if you use that stuff it'll ruin your sheetrock. the only way is just to rip it off and spackle were the wall gets messed up
