It should not be used to guide policy or legislation, nor should the government be in the business of suggesting preference for one set of religious beliefs over another. The Constitution also states that no religious test should be required to hold public office. I just wish the voters themselves would follow that precedent rather than waiting to see who throws out the most references to God or Jesus in campaign speeches.

If you mean for religion to play a role in politics the answer is NO.
Sadly, religious fanatics created a religion dominated regimes in many countries that were as oppressive as the worst dictatorships.
The church burned, beheaded, and tortured thousands of people who did not totally agreed with the church or were just accused of imaginary faults so to eliminate them and take away their possessions.
The role of the church should be kept strictly personal it could have public manifestations but not in politics. The experience was negative.

In your *own* public life, it can play whatever role you need. You can display, it discuss it and hopefully *live* your religion when you are in public.
If you mean should religion play a role in *society*, the public as a whole -- no, it should not. To impose any set of religious values on the entire public is wrong.

Humans are cultural creatures with faiths and beliefs of all sorts..
you cant eliminate religion no matter how hard u try from public life...u can quiet it down...oppress it...or ignore it..but it cant be completely eliminated.
its against human nature....the majority of the human race like to have a label for a religion
it would be better off if u try to EMPHASIZE goodness is finding the middle ground -balance religion with daily life-rather than trying to tell them that its all bunk.
anything in large amounts is bad.

As far as interacting with other people a persons religion should only come into play where that religion may be at odds with what is going on.
I tend to believe that a persons religion is a personal matter and no one else needs to know or hear about it unless there are possible conflicts due to incompatibility

Well I am not sure I understand your question correctly, but here it goes. I feel religion is guidelines that God gave us on how to live for him so we can be a reflection of Christ. When poeple see us they should see a representative of him. Religion helps us to know how to live for Christ. Religion is something that is to be with us in or out of public. Religion helps us to be christ like. Some poeple need religion because they don't know what they should or shouldn't do. So God gives us some guidelines.

Personal influence is OK, so long as religious motives aren't exempted from critique or given a degree of consideration that supersedes any other opinions.
There's a reason for the separation of religious institutions from government institutions. To prevent a stifling of the marketplace of ideas by endorsement of certain creeds and exclusion of others. To prevent the motives of the government and it's agencies from hiding corruption and tyranny behind piety.

I think for the most part, religion has everything to do with people's morals so it should be highly visible in public life.

That depends on how important it is to you in your personal life. That importance should carry from personal to public life, regardless of your practices. If people can't except it for what it is then they need to get a life of their own and move on.
