The "Joy of Cooking" is the only cook book you will need. There are two actually, one for deserts and one that tells you all about the different ingrediens and meats, plus more Recepies than you will ever need. It is priced right and you may be able to purchase it on line. Also you may want to subscribe to a magazine called, "Cooking Light". Lots of good stuff there too.

Do you have a used book store or any kind of second hand store nearby? I always find great cookbooks at reasonable prices there.
Ones to look for: Joy Of Cooking, any of the Better Homes & Gardens or Betty Crocker specialty books, The Moosewood Cookbook or any other Mollie Katzen (GREAT vegetarian recipes)

Besides cookbooks you can go to allrecipes.com. They have TONS of recipes and they are rated and reviewed. Also have an IDEAS button to give you ideas rather than just searching for a specific recipe.
