Yes. A doctor can prescribe any drug, whether he is a general physician or a psychiatrist.

Basically, your general physician will prescribe such drugs unless he feels you should be seen by someone with more expertise than himself.

both. if you're not comfortable going to a psychiatrist then talk to your doctor. I personally get my prescription from my doctor but that's only because the psychiatrists office is in a very public place and around here people treat you different if they know you have a problem....it's sucky but that's the way it is.
