I think that really depends on your area. I walked through several new model houses that have a half bathroom that connects directly to the kitchen. There was not two doors between the bathroom and the kitchen. Some areas have a lot more rules regarding that kind of stuff than others. I had my house built about 2.5 years ago, so that is fairly recent.

i live in a house built in 1981, and my kitchen has a door leading right into the john (no shower just sink and toilet), but i leave the door closed most of the time. so i dont have to stare at the toilet while in the kitchen. handwashing is a must no matter where the toilet is located. Also my brother lives in a home not 5 years old, and he also has a bathroom door in his kitchen. i dont think this is uncommon. people in newer homes nowadays want 3 or 4 bathrooms in their houses, well they run out of places to put them. good grief :)

I bought a house years ago to do up for letting. There was a bathroom off the kitchen, which gave me 3 bedrooms.
The building inspector took one look and shook his head, NO WAY JOSE. I had to turn one of the bedrooms into a bathroom.
This is UK

I'm a contractor and where I'm from it's against the building code, avoid this set up if you can.( let the door open around the corner from the kitchen if possible)

In older homes it was the norm. I have a bathroom right off the kitchen, I hate it. Should have never been allowed. Unfortuately no closets was also a norm. What were they thinking???

No you will need to construct some kind of lobby with doors between the rooms. Building Regs do not permit them being directly linked.

No, for hygeine reasons there has to be a room in between kitchen and bathroom. Don't see why, as germs will still spread if people don't wash their hands.

I think it must be permitted in a domestic dwelling. There is a hygeine question, but surely you can have a loo wherever you want in your own home.
