You should have gotten a title with him as lien holder. You probably bought a stolen car.

Check with the finance company or LTA, u should have a copy of the log card when you purchase the car?

Contact the office in your state which handles vehicle titles. Depending on your state, this office is sometimes called DMV (Department of Motor Vehicles) or DPS (Department of Public Safety), but it may be called something else. They should be able to point you in the right direction.
