A young woman, brought to this country illegally from Mexico years ago as a child, married, divorced, has two teenagers in school in Califonia. Visiting relatives a few months ago in a southern state was stopped on a traffic stop, arrested and held all this time. They now say they will deport her (or remove her). Her lawyer is ineffective - not cheap - even bad lawyers are not cheap. Children are citizens but not over 21 and cannot help by sponsoring their mother as a relative (as I understand the law). What can a person who knows her and can give her a job (she had a job in California but lost it obviously for nonattendance because she was hundreds of miles away in jail. My grown daughter has befriended her - she is a good person. How could we, or someone who is willing to "sponsor" her help. What does that entail and how must one qualify? Are there any "good" lawyers, or better informed people out there who can tell me this? I

honestly, there is not much your can do to sponsor her, if she is detained, she is most likely under going deportation hearings.... which means she is not entitled to be sponsored to stay here.... even via her daughters.... and once she is deported, she has to wait 10 years before they can apply for her. I know you would like to help her, but they time she should have sought help was way before this.... when she could have gotten help.... once they begin proceedings to deport her, it is almost a lost cause.....
but it is not 100% bleak, you can try to sponsor her..... people slip through the application process everyday, all the time.... but the warning to you is, as someone knowing this is the case, as she is detained, can find yourself in violation trying to keep someone in violation here....I suggest, if you really want to help, sugesst a better lawyer for her, why pay a ton of money to someone who is not worth it.... it is better to pay a lot of money for someone who can give her a chance.... but if you need advice on where to start the sponsoring go to the links i have below. I admire you wanting to help, but i caution you that it may not work.

this is a tough situation and i dont think u can petition for her as an employer - she overstayed more than 180 days in the US illegally and most likely be subject to removal proceedings...get a very good lawyer...USCIS might be able to make an exception based on her situation...
