I have a swipe card system at my office. I want the swipe card to activate the reader when I'm within a small distance of it. I don't mind having the card out or waving it near the reader, but to have to put it in the groove and swipe it is annoying. Was wondering if there was any way to amplify the rfid chip in the card (I don't mind hacking the card apart) so that it'll pick up the rfid from a distance..

Your thinking backwards...hacking the RFID card would be near impossible, but hacking the reciever is much more realistic.
You could possible move the sensor from the swipe region to a different location, but it might actually be easier to just get a new system. (unless you have some time to kill)
