I (a black guy) was with a beautiful (Indian) girl who said she caught a (black) girl giving her nasty looks and even smirked at her (when I wasn't around). She said that girl wasn't the first to look as us oddly. Is this common for ppl to act the way to the appearance of a mixed couple? I say that b/c we aren't dating. And when stupid ppl act at like that to her what can I say to make her feel better?

That girl smirked when I wasn't around... I went to the rest room and when I got back she (the girl I was with) told me the (stupid) girl walk right past her staring and smirked at her.

Sad to say, there are many idiots who are so narrow minded that they feel that a mixed couple is wrong.
Remind her that they are just being morons, and ignore them. Let her know that she's a good friend, and you like her just the way she is. Tell her that any females caught being rude are probably jealous of her beauty, and any men are secretly wishing they had her instead of you. It may not be true, but it should perk her up to hear it.
And it's very nice that you care enough to try to make her feel better about the way people think. You must be a very good friend to have. It's a shame more people can't be as considerate to others like this.

Wouldn't u actually look at a zebra, walking together with a horse?? **** the politically corretness!
And this is to say.. I don't care, not a problem. Live and let live! But if u look at my example above, u'll understand that there's a reason for everyhting. It's our natural instinct. Zebras and horses are genetically very close.. Almost the same, yet not the same.
This is true also for humans. The big and general category in which intelligent primates fell, is in fact called HUMANS. However, humans have themselves different peculiarities. As well as the difference between horses and zebras; just for instance. My advice is: Just do not give a damn! Don't care about what people think... do whatever u like, and live ur life.

That's too bad that that happened.
I'm bi, so I know what it's like to be stared at and wonder why. I've been glared at so many times for just holding hands with a girl.
I wish people were more tolerant of mixed couples... why does the amount of melanin in a person's skin matter, anyway? I find dark skin beautiful... but I digress.
Mixed couples can bring about the most beautiful children. That woman was ignorant, at best, and definitely has closed herself off to enjoying life as an open-minded person.
The more hate and judgement you have, the less you'll enjoy life.

Yes, people will look, but they aren't necessarily thinking something bad. They might be thinking what a beautiful couple you make...don't assume the negative!

I was at the market recently & was watching a little girl who was so beautiful & was playing so sweetly in the cart--she just caught my attention and I looked at her--not stared or anytihng. The child was obviously of mixed race. The grandmother (white)made a rude remark to me about what was wrong with me looking at the child & I thought how sad for the kid that the grandmother automatically assumes people think bad things about the beautiful little girl.

I have had the same problem, and there isn't a whole lot you can say to make your friend feel better, although you two can come to an understanding of how fukced up some peoples' minds are and how hateful they can be. If anything, it should be somewhat of a compliment to her. That's what I used to tell my gf's at first.
Anyway, just goes to show how prejudice and racism can be dished out by people of all colors and races. Anyone who has a problem with this issue, can cry about it to themselves...'cause there isn't anything you can do about it!! HAHA!

First of all, most people assume when they see a man and woman together that they are a couple. Secondly, there are always going to be people with their own opinions, especially with interracial dating. Its one of those subjects in which you're either for it or against it ... and usually the people who are against it don't hesitate to voice their opinions or show them in some other way ... like through the dirty looks. Tell her not to worry about what other people think, you guys are out having a good time and no one else should be able to ruin that. Sometimes we are forced to make decisions based on our own happiness and screw what society thinks is right. She shouldn't be so concerned with what other people think. What is someone else's opinion, anyway?

nothing you can say will ease this tension. You seem to be in a relationship whether or not you are. The other girl was probably jelous that she couldn't have you. People are small minded and while alot of people claim not to be rasisct, they in fact are at least to some degree. But a look shouldnt worry you or your friend. Unless you really care what those "other" people think....

You are absolutely correct; stupid people do stare. When a person does not know or understand another race they will stare. Someon said 'ignorance is bliss' - well not when it comes to this issue. Maybe some people are just jealous.
If your really care about the girl, just ignore what others do or say and tell her to do the same.

Come to Trinidad in the West Indies. 40% of our population is black and 40% is Indian so mixed couples aren't weird at all. No one would watch you weirdly, I guarantee it.

P.S. The black girl probably has low self esteem
