Sure, type like a normal human being. And ask a doctor about it. I'm sure there aren't that many docs on yahoo right now because, well, they're all at work.

Hi,
I got diagnosed with acute plantar fasciitis yesterday. I've had it quite bad for a while, then really bad this weekend that I couldn't walk. No running for me for a while :(
Get you brother to go to the doctors and get properly diagnosed.
I got given antinflammatory tablets, painkillers and inbroprufen gel, and a fact sheet -
rest until pain subsides
stretch achilles tendon before getting out of bed in morning (and a list of suggested exercises)
cold compress 3-4 times per day
get well fitting cushioned shoes
lose any excess weight.
Hope this helps, and your brother makes a speedy recovery.

Footwear is the key !
Keep off all footwear at home if possible, then use heavily cushioned footwear when working etc. Try footcare section in pharmacy and you'll see some soft, silicone gel heel pads which work well - It takes time.
Lastly a cortisone injection can help.

Well-fitting, supportive shoes, ice, ibuprofen and stretching the foot. It will take quite a while to heel, depending on how much he runs and walks. Instead of running, maybe he should just walk for now.

When I had it I found I flat shoes particularly aggravated it. I bought bath sponges and cut a thick wedge to put inside each shoe under that heel. Nobody else knew it was there and was a lot more comfortable. Also soaked foot in epsom salts. They both helped.
