ususally at family hands, why is it that you do not have to take any child rearing courses before you have one? I mean you have to have a driving test before they issue you a license? Is raising a child any less of a hazard to yourself and others?

I agree. There should be a course and license for having children but who will make up the rules?
It isn't just violence. Having lived in a small town I noticed a lot of children having children, usually to live off the Mother's Allowance and Baby Bonus which is extremely unhealthy and unfair to the babies. Mental abuse is also a factor with children these days.
It's a terrible shame that needs to be dealt with...but how? Children's Aid Society can only do so much.

It seems like it would be difficult to implement. With driving, you need an external apparatus, and you do the act publicly where people can easily see if you're being irresponsible. People are equipped with all they need to reproduce, and sex is private (usually). On top of that, plenty of people get pregnant when they think they're protected.

I'd think that the only way to implement a class like this to reach the most people would be putting it in high school curriculum. Maybe as a health class. But I could see plenty of parents appalled at this idea, teaching about something that admits their children are having sex.

I hear the sadness and frustration in your question. It's difficult to see so much suffering and feel powerless to change it, (at least that's how I've felt about this sometimes.) But your question seems to show that you have a desire to support children and to contribute to their safety and happiness. Perhaps you could begin to look for a way to do something on behalf of suffering children. If you intend this, something will happen to give you the opportunity to serve, whether it is one child or many. Perhaps you'll meet others who are also moved to participate and you can do something useful together. Allow yourself to feel your anger and sadness and then use that to fuel your skillful actions.

Absolutely! Having children should not be available to irresponsible people. A course, (even a crash one) should be mandatory as to how to properly take care of a child. It is an enormous responsibility: It´s a brand new little person that should have all the opportunities to become a balanced, responsible, moral, affectionate adult.

Where I use to live I recall doctors who recommended for new parents to take child rearing courses and providing moms to be with baby care literature.... it seems the only time parents are forced to do that is when they face child neglect charges.... we definitely need to do better than that!

i think it would be the smart thing, but there alot of girls/women out there there get pregnant accidently and chose to have the child and raise it and are not prepared, but still try their best. Then there are the ones that end up beating the child to death like that stupid 23yr old woman from Richmond, Ca.

it would be nice if everyone had to take parenting classes and get some kind of license or certificate before their children are born, but it'll never happen, because of the whole invasion of privacy thing.

Yeah, you only have to legally "qualify" if you're going to adopt.

But you got a point, maybe that should be a required class in school or something. OR, maybe hospitals can offer insentives for parents to be who take those classes.

All you'd really need is a course in RESPECT. That's what the whole world seems to be lacking more than anything.

as a foster mom I like to know this answer too. Since we don't we must pray and physically help these children. We can't ignore these situations and think it is someone elses responsibility.
