It is often said that, "when a man loves a woman, periodically he needs to pull away before he can get closer"....it is also said that they can stretch only so far before they come springing back...i think this is actually a really good metaphor to understand the male intimacy cycle...what do you think about this is this true?.........

It is a good metaphor... Men tend to need some space at times, and when they get too far, they come right back... I think its something all women won't completely understand why they are like that, but we should know its normal, and be understanding... considering the situation of course... Guys don't understand why we always need to talk about it over and over :) etc... its just something we all need to be understanding of... but you make a great point!

Men are more like puppies... we wander around aimlessly at times and need a women to pull on the leash to get us back... if we get too much attention we want to get away from it and just be... but when we notice we arent getting it anymore we come whimpering back looking for affection... It is a real weird situation .. trust me i am a man and i have a hard time understanding myself...

I think that cycles and metaphor's are not all ways true but sometimes good generalizations. I think that there are many people of many different type's. And that it really depends on the individual.

Osiris, this is one of those grandmother's folk tales stuff. Frankly speaking, engaging in a generalization endeavor like this is very dangerous - both in your approach to issues as well as perspectives. I can bet you (with all sincerity) that it'll have a negative impact on you objectivity inclinations. Try and deal with people (whether guys or gurls) the way the are, rather than making a generalized assumptions. Think about it. Glad to "meet you again" Cheers and best of luck.

If he needs to pull away at any time you don't want him. A real man knows what he wants. If he does not want you he will say it out of his mouth, and a real man will do that. Anything else is just a man playing games.

Everyone needs space (men and women). Remember the old saying: "Absence makes the heart grow fonder"?
