On a used car, does anyone know how to tell if airbags have been used? It is my assumption that once used a dealer does not reinstall?

Have a reputable dealer inspect the airbags. If they were ever used, then they have been replaced.

You were supposed to get airbags inspected every couple of years when they first came out (in the early 1990s) so I'm guessing there's a way to check them out.

Does the car show other signs of being in an accident? You can look up the vehicle identification number (VIN) online and find out if it was in an accident and what happened to it.

Don't do this your self. Airbags will also be unsafe, peculiarly for those who get it flawed. This is a trader activity. Some makes (Vauxhall for one) may have a little one seat that has a precise becoming that disables the passenger bag, however might you desire to depend on it? Don't even feel approximately a guide transfer, someday you would overlook to turn it.

Airbags can be used only once. If they were used and not replaced, you'll see big baggy things hanging out of the steering wheel, dash, etc. To replace them, you have to take the old one out and put the new one in place.

Are you asking to find out if a car has been in a bad accident? Get the VIN # and go to Carfax.
