Overfill a transmission with oil, it will spit it out of the vent when hot.

damage... too much tranny fluid allows the turning parts inside a C4 or a C6 to beat the fluid as as you would beat an egg...the resulting foam lather will not cool the clutches or carry the heat as a liquid might. also the fluid will not compress but once you get a bunch of air bubbles in the fluid it will compress directly affecting the valve body operation...if it is over full and will not move the damage is already done. draining the fluid and reinstalling the fluid is a waste of fluid and time.
usually the front pump fails (gear breaks) due to overheating,

i own a repair shop, and if you over filled it you need to get it out of there as soon as possible it can do permanent damage to the transmission on it,and it will cause all the seals to start leaking on it also,i have been at this for 36 yrs,and i have seen a lot of transmissions go out because of over filling them, that's actually worse on one, that running it a little low on fluid, drain it out a,d re-fill it,it only takes 5 or 6 quarts o completely fill it but just add 4 quarts to it and run it,then recheck it before you add any more to it,this way you wont over fill it again,,good luck i hope this help,s.
