Advice Please??
I am 40 1/2 weeks pregnant and I went to the doc. on monday to have an ultrasound to check on the baby. They said that he was 8lbs and had plenty of fluid and already head down and ready to come. They schedualed me to be induced for the 8th because I havent been progressing. I am 1cm dilated for a month now and I have walked myself until I thought I would drop and still nothing. I have also had sex (softly because it kind of hurts) and nothing. So monday the doc. tried to stretch my cervix to get things going and Im beginning to think he did. I walked a lot yesterday and last night I started having really sharp pains in my pelvic area that shot all the way down to my cervix it felt. So bad I couldnt hardly walk. They started to ease up so I walked some more and done nipple stimulation which got them to keep up. They wouldnt last though and eventually I ended up falling asleep. Now this morning when I stand up I feel the same pains off and on and really bad when he moves around.

does this sound like the start of early labor? and how do I keep them going? I dont want to do anything harsh like caster oil or black and blue cohosh. Thanks for all your help and advice. Me and my hubby are ready and excited to see this little man!

Let me be the first one to say congratulations... Just keep walking that is the best advice. Even when you are dilating good or not so good sometimes they will still ask you to walk. My wife was stuck on 8 cm for the longest time. You just never know how fast or slow it will be. Just keep on walking and walking. I believe the pains are normal after stretching. I wouldn't get nervous if I don't see any blood. Again congrats... You know Walter is a great name hint hint....

Do you have one of those large rubber workout balls? My doctor recommended this as an aide in my week long labor process. It helps labor progress by using a supported squatting position, which widens the pelvic opening and enlists gravity to help pull the baby down toward the base of the womb. The ball allows for squatting without putting pressure on the joints and restricting blood circulation.
It establishes proper body alignment by keeping the back straight and using muscles equally on either side of the spine.
It makes possible a rocking motion that eases discomfort and helps position the baby for delivery.

Well taking a nice warm shower first then raise your feet up in the air put pillows under them to keep them raised and dont do full crunchs but just your shoulders up a bit, I was the same way as you and my doctor told me to do little crunchs and within days I had my baby a week early and thankfully too she was 8lbs and 7ozs and if I would had not done nothing they would had to have cut me open and have my child that way and she would have been over 10lbs so try that and good luck congrats!

Keep walking and do the stretches they taught you in lamaze class. It'll help your muscles. Both of my kids were early, so I don't really know how to induce it, but just walk, and that will help... Also, if you're having pains, you should go to your doctor or the ER to have yourself checked for dilation, to check on your progress. Because you can be surprised at how fast you can dilate and not even know it.

It sounds like you'll have the baby before the induction. Early labor is usually light painless contractions and it sounds like they will come soon enough. Be patient.

have you talked to your doctor? It may be a sign of labor, they could start potosin which will make labor come on and gradually the baby will be born. I would call your doctor and ask him or her and have them check for dialation, to see if you are more along yet.

My mom was a nurse for many years, and swears by orange juice as something to naturally induce labour. She told me to drink it when I felt TOO pregnant, and it worked at progressing labour for me.
