Forget legalities, do whats right by your son. You should want to support him and not leave it all up to his mother!

The law is quite clear... the father must pay maintenance until 18 if the child is in education, if the child leaves education at 16 then the fathers obligation is legally over.

Seperated? If you have not filed for support through the courts he is not obligated to pay for ANY age. He should still help, but is not obligated to. I would file ASAP if I were you. Additionally in most jurisdictions he would be required to until 25 as long as they were still in school full time. The exact age does vary by jurisdiction, so you would need to check for the exact age.
The part about if the kid has a job would vary by jurisdiction as well. Keep in mind you not only have people on here from multiple states but countries as well.

After the age of 16 your children are no longer required to be maintained as they are legally old enough to seek full time work even if the average 17 year old is a lazy know it all.So any money you give towards their future will be classed legally as a gift and not a stated payment.

ok first each and every new child has heard of the human centipede various say that they have got watched it while they have been given freaked by capacity of the trailer. it incredibly is not any longer acceptable for a new child of 10 it incredibly is an 18 for a reason. And it may influence your new child's psychological well being state and progression extra effective than you are able to think of. i does no longer advise every physique watch it no longer to point a ten year previous

What does your court order say? Most parents are financially responsible until the child reaches the age of 18 unless said child goes to college.

I am pretty sure that you need to continue to pay child support to the mother until the child is 18. I think that if the child gets a job that the amount of child support decreases. You have have to seek leagal advice on this on to know for sure, but I think that is how it works.

The 17 yr old is still considered a minor, so yes, you do have to still pay. There may be reasons why he isnt working, like his grades arent good enough for a work permit.

Yes. Child support is paid until the child reaches 18, unless the child stays in school, then it is 25, in most cases.

Boy!, you women want everything, As long as your X pays the child support as the court orders he should only pay extra if he chooses to do so. If you need a new car or diamonds or new stuff to ware I suggest you get a job. You dumped the poor guy what makes you think he should do anything other than support his kid!!!
